We were at a farmers market earlier in the day, I tried their beer, it was decent, and they offered pizza. So I went there with my family today; me, my wife and our 7 yr old. We got there around 4:35. We went to order pizza first as we had a hungry kid. The worker told us that they were out of dough but would have more at 5 pm. We ordered beer and got the kid a snack at the general store. When we checked in at a little after 5, the sign in front said the expected time was now 5:30 as they were "out of some ingredients."
By this point, there were 3 OTHER families with kids waiting to order pizza. Knowing that any place we went for food would have a delay of 20+ minutes and woodfire pizza took 5 minutes to cook, we hung out a little longer and ordered another beer. It should have been telling to me that when I made a comment about the delay with pizza to the older lady serving beer, she said something to the effect of "not great, but good for us!"
At 5:30, we checked back in, and they said it would be ANOTHER 30 minutes. We had trauma bonded with the couple at the next table, who arrived just after us with 2 very hungry kids, so we waited a little longer. At 5:40, the person doing the pizzas took the sign in that said they offered pizza. We gave up and made plans to go to Two Heroes Brewery in South Hero, who is always consistently good with both food and beer, but we did that knowing that our kid who normal eats at 5 pm wouldn't eat until close to 7.
I'd like to tell you that was the worst part... but just before 5:50 when we left, they still had the sign up saying they were out of ingredients, but the person who told us she couldn't make us pizza, was taking orders for pizza from 3 people. She was ringing them in and talking their money. By the way they talked to each other, they were either locals or knew each other. There were still at least 6 hungry kids (with parents) there who had been waiting an hour+ when we left, and THOSE were the people who could get food?!
Beers: 2 out of 5, it was fine, but I didn't buy a 4 pack. I always buy a 4 pack for really good local beer that I can't get at home. Again, it was fine. Atmosphere: 4 out of 5, it was a cool little place that had great vibes when you walked in and a water view. Pizza: 0 out of 5, or I guess N/A out of 5 because of the story above.
All of that said, making my kid who normally eats by 5 pm wait until almost 7 to eat because you strung me along is a 1 star review. The person making (or not making) pizza was wearing your breweries shirt. That's a reflection on you. If you can't handle pizza, don't do pizza. If you can't plan for volume after a farmers market, don't do farmers' markets. If you're just a place that caters to locals, don't pretend like you were ever gonna serve us food and just tell us you're all out so I can find a different place to feed my child.
We're in the area multiple times a year and were excited to find a new place to frequent, but we...
Read moreI was visiting Vermont to celebrate my friends birthday and she, her spouse, and I decided to come here for lunch. This has to be some of the worst service I've ever experienced. We received no service for almost 30 minutes after being seated. Not even our drink order was taken. We sought out our server twice during this time to say we were ready, but we only saw a teenager. We told him twice to let our server know we were ready. I don't know if that msg ever got conveyed. My friend even went to the bar to order drinks, but the kid wasn't old enough to serve alcohol. The beer is average at best. There are lots of better options in Vermont, honestly, which is known for NEIPA's. My friend and I ordered bacon, egg, and cheese on an english muffin, which is pictured, and when we finally got our food, they served it with an underdone egg and NO bacon. At this point, we were all livid and over it. They did take one order off our bill, tho they should have removed both. And we also saw other people seated while we waited for our food, and the server went to their table multiple times within a 15-minute period. Needless to say, I will never return here again, and I don't recommend it. I don't know the reason for the poor service, but it's bad optics when this occurs, and you're the only non-white person in the establishment. The 4+ star Google rating was extremely misleading. I don't usually rate this harshly on just one visit, but this review simply reflects my experience. I hope they learn...
Read moreThis brewery makes some of the best beer that I have ever tasted. They always make a range of beer that touches on everybody's taste preference, from hearty stouts to bold IPAs to truly unique offerings like the very delicate Fresh Hop IPA they had in summer and sours made with local berries that come out pink and are brightly refreshing. The master behind all of these works of art is a very critical and discerning craftsman who works with Island grown hops and local fresh ingredients, constantly tweaking, customizing or combining them from scratch to make beers that approach perfection.
Unfortunately, the space here is currently limited by COVID to only offer samples in-house, but growlers of their draughts are available to go, as are the pints. The staff are amazing, and always make every person who enters feel like a local and a regular. When they are able to open their outdoor and indoor seating, the location is gorgeous and relaxing in its own right, being right on the lake and in a bright, comfortable space with a calming and uplifting vibe. This is one of the places that make the Champlain Islands very special, and this spot in particular warrants making a special trip out (even if it is the only place you go). Cannot recommend highly enough. Definitely...
