I'm sorry to find that the food at Springhouse Country Market is not what it used to be a year ago. I was so happy upon my first trip there to find the food to be just like homemade. Everything tasted like you hoped it would taste. I recommended them to everyone. I found the food to be just as amazing on my next 2 trips. However, on my last 3 trips there the food was dry, did not look appetizing, and tasted just okay. The vegetable casserole was so dry that they should have stopped serving it hours before I arrived. I took my daughter on my 5th trip and neither of us were impressed. Today was 6th trip (I seem to make it out there about every 3 months or so) and I ordered a turkey sandwich on rye from the sandwich board. The turkey was listed as home cooked but it was lunchmeat. The bread was sunflower seed and not rye. It was a very moist and tasty bread but not what I wanted with turkey and swiss. I asked for seeded rye which was on the menu and got sunflower seed. I also asked for pickles which was one of the condiments offered but they didn't have any. What good is a deli sandwich w/o chips and pickles IMO. I asked for an apple dumpling heated just a bit with ice cream and it caused chaos! The dumpling and the ice cream have to be ordered at different counters. I finally found someone to help me and she put a scoop of vanilla on my dumpling and then headed to heat it up! Common sense would tell you to heat up the dumpling first and then put the ice cream on. Microwaved ice cream isn't appealing. Luckily I caught her before she nuked it and so I ended up with a very cold apple dumpling which didn't taste homemade and I needed a knife to cut it. I'm not saying it wasn't homemade it just didn't taste good and I paid $9 for it. On trips 4 and 5 I thought maybe they were just having an off day. But trip 6 today has pretty much put the nail in the coffin. Their food is not cheap and I'm not sure it's worth taking a...
Read moreI don’t really leave reviews for places but after todays visit I felt the need to. I have anxiety so I struggle with that when going out constantly and today was the second time I’ve ever been to the spring house but I think it might be my last. There was a young kid behind the counter taking orders for different things and he had the absolute worst attitude. I’m the quiet type who never complains but for the first time I wanted to. His attitude was so bad that it prevented me from asking him for help with getting more things. Before I went I had it in my mind that I was going to blow money as a treat because things have been stressful so I fully intended to spend more than I did. The first time I mentioned something I was unsure of he snapped “what?” “ I have no idea what you mean” He asked me to repeat myself constantly which in itself wasn’t an issue because the masks are covering your mouth and some people genuinely have a harder time hearing, but the attitude wasn’t needed. I work in customer service so I can understand how it is on a busy day but when someone is asking for help with something and not being a total jerk I don’t take my bad day out on the customer. I had a bad day too at work but even there as a customer with him giving me attitude I myself didn’t give attitude back so it just left me kind of upset to be treated that way after a long day myself. I felt so uncomfortable that I rushed to leave before getting half of what I wanted. I can’t say it enough but it was his general demeanor that I couldn’t take more than anything he actually said. On a positive note the guy who rang me up was extremely nice. Unfortunately with my anxiety I won’t risk going back and getting the other guy which is a shame because I...
Read moreThe Springhouse Country Market in 84 PA is a great place for great country food and is a really great time.
We most recently went for the Saturday morning brunch. $9.95 per person gets you all you can eat of biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, cheesy hash browns, and corn fritters. That's the hot stuff that is served to you as you make your way through the line. The next table had fruit salad, cinnamon sticky buns, yogurt and homemade granola. There is also homemade bread and raisin bread with what tasted like fresh churned butter.
Each and every one of these items were fantastic, hands down. My least favorite was probably the sausage gravy. It's more of a country gravy with sausage in it. It was tasty, but I personally prefer Bob Evans. But I digress... My favorite item was the homemade raisin bread. It tasted like the bread my grandma used to make. I went back for 3 more slices. Of course with the amazing butter.
The bacon was crispy and the eggs were cooked very well. Even the coffee was smooth and great to drink.
The staff was friendly and helpful, checking to make sure everything was to our liking. When I mentioned that my wife really liked the coffee, the woman actually went back to the kitchen and showed us the giant bag of coffee they use so that we could look it up online (they sold coffee by the bag, but not that brand).
The dining area was long but a smidge narrow, but still enough room for comfortable dining. It was clean and comfortable.
All in all, I would definitely give the Springhouse 5 stars. I strongly recommend that you...
