What a great surprise! this hybrid mexican italian pizza restaurant has only been open a couple of years now. My buddy and I ate breakfast there one morning and enjoyed our meal. He had huevos rancheros that he said were fine, I had a chorizo omelette. it brought me back to Mexico in the exact way they make their omelettes down below the border....not really the way I prefer but still authentic. They mix the vegs, meat and cheese into the eggs and then cook them as opposed to the American way of just adding those ingredients, especially the cheese inside the omelette and cook till done. Coffee was good and strong, the waitress EMILY was delightful bubbly and attentive. Prices were quite reasonable and room nicely decorated with Mexican art and festive decorations... I was so impressed with breakfast my partner and I went there that week for dinner and I'll just say....I've lived most of my life in California and have had lots of good authentic Mexican food over the years. My favorite restaurant in the world is TOPOLOBAMBO in Chicago by Rick Bayless and this little place in Laurel Hill of all places has some of the BEST MOLE I've ever eaten.......yes it's a bit sweet but also spicey but bursting with smokey chile flavors. The MOLE burrito was absolutely HUGE and I am a big boy.....I didn't eat the whole thing and that's very unusual for me especially if the food is so delicious. My partner had the calzone stromboli thing and he said it was fine but the dough didn't stick to the ingredients like one would expect in an Italian restaurant. Again, this is where the traditional Mexican cooking came in, the dough was more like a torta. Still we had a good dinner and I will be back to try other dishes but hey, if you are looking for the BEST MOLE, get yourself to...
Read moreI found JoJos for the first time on a Google search, tonight. I always used to go to Mi Casa downtown, but was hoping for a change. So when JoJos popped up, I was glad to find something new. I tried to order a little of everything, and there was my only disappointment in the whole experience. There were a few of my choices that he did not have available. HOWEVER, that is not something I fault the owner for. It is a small place and food prices are too high, right now. So to overstock and chance throwing food out, is not easy on a place of that size, so I completely understand. He did have enuff variety for me to get a good feel for who they are, atleast as a Mexican food destination. What i did get, was excellent. I was very pleased with the food, and the find. The gentleman that I dealt with, (whom I believe may be the owner, or atleast one of them) was very nice, and regretful about the missing options. He was however glad to make the substitutions that I requested, which made up for the things i could not get. When I arrived to pick up my order, I was handed a complimentary slice of pizza, fresh from the oven, to try while I waited for my order to be rung up. (Which was also very good. Great crust!) All in all, I was very pleased with the experience. I will, definitely be recommending them to friends & family, and will be going back soon.
If you're in the Norwich area and looking for a good Mexican or Italian meal, please check out Jojo's. You wont be...
Read moreI normally visit a few times before I give a review. Wow that's not the case today first time visit last time visit!!!!! Let's start with the atmosphere. Clean, net, booths and a counter. Just what you'd expect in an everyday local establishment. I sat at the counter and it was a little peculiar the counter was extremely tall or the stools short. It felt like I was on an ape hanger bike, the counter was just below my nipples I am 6'1". Most prices were on the high side for lunch. Besides Mexican food they sell pizzas and grinders. On the menu a meatball parmesan grinder. I ordered a small $8.50 and a 20oz bottle Coke zero. When the bill came soda $3.50. it took 20 minutes for the grinder to arrive. The place had a couple and myself seated. No to go orders were picked up while I was there. Bread was good, the sauce was passable. There was not any parmesan on the grinder nor any taste of Parmesan. It was loaded with mozzarella, enough to choke a goat. The meatballs were disgusting. These were not homemade guaranteed 100% store bought crap. They were spongy and it taste like I've never had in my entire life. Two meatballs cut in half with the entirety of the meat. Could only choke down half. Here's the kicker I gave the remaining food to my dog. He ate the bread, cheese and wouldn't touch the meatballs. I'm still IMAO. GOOD LUCK IF...
