I remember getting menu item D9, in my first apartment after my divorce, up behind the DMV. Sitting on the carpet and feeling some of the old emptiness fill in. The owner's children, not yet conditioned to the American sense of personal space, piling up against me in the booth to see what I was playing on my Nintendo DS, a sudden and startling human touch, so natural for them but shocking to me. And D9 again - a decade later. Crab Rangoon, pork fried rice, chicken fingers, chicken teriyaki.. over the table at my cottage, married again, losing to my new wife at skip-bo, after five years lost in a bottle and a three year old moved three hours away.
When covid came, the owners took it seriously. China remembers SARS. Sealed up the front door into a weird half window, every full measure of sanitation that turned out to be sanity. They got robbed, once, then again. None of us did too much during the plague years. a whole lost span, for the entire world. And we all got robbed a few times, by our own flaws, the selfishness of others, the greed of the overclass.
Here I am again, waiting for D9, and my wife's lo mein and rangoon. We're not doing so good these days, but who is? I hope the Mr. Pan's people are, I hope their kids are blossoming into healthy and successful adults. I'm glad there are so many different cultures in this country and that American Chinese food, whatever distant relation it bears to the eight great cuisines of China - Shandong, Hunan, Sichuan, Cantonese, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Anhui - is so common as to be unremarkable. But here I am, remarking. The food...
Read moreThe General Tsos chicken, crab rangoons, egg rolls, and homemade duck sauce are all yummy. The pork fried rice is definitely lacking something so I had to use a few packets of soy sauce. But fried rice seems to be something that most chinese take out places struggle with. Still a great meal for a location so close to us! The parking is not great, just hope that it's not busy when you go! Very quick service! I went for lunch, couldn't call ahead because I didn't have the menu. I was in and out with food in under 10 minutes. The lady at the counter is not overly friendly, more of a get things done kind of person. For me, that's not a problem.
Will definitely eat...
Read moreFirst time trying this place. I was not impressed. Parking is terrible. There is no dine in option because there's no room. Food was mediocre 😕 we bought *Pork lo mein, very salty. *Pork fried rice, bland, no peas, no carrots, no scrambled egg, just rice, sprouts, and pork and a weird texture. *Boneless ribs, meaty, not overdone but really no flavor. Teriyaki chicken, which wasn't terrible, and *fried dumplings, which were really small compared to other restaurants, they were tasty, and the dumpling sauce was super sweet, tasty though. All in all, I've had way better. Won't be back. Posted pics of...
