FIVE STARS! Five big stars for location, service, ambiance, staff, ownership, portions, prices, ice cream quality. Selection of flavors is excellent and varied, the “flight “ option is genius and an amazing way to try a bunch of flavors because there are too many good ones to just. The shop itself (setup, lighting and decor) is lovely and welcoming. I have one very small complaint and it’s not at all reflective of the owners but rather the ice cream. The vanilla and chocolate base flavors are absolutely fantastic. You can taste the real vanilla and cocoa and the consistency is creamy and rich. This latest trip I got two scoops. I got a chocolate chip scoop solely because the second scoop, cookie dough is exactly that, chocolate chip cookie dough. There’s not enough cookie dough to begin with so I was hoping to supplement with the chocolate chip scoop. That was a bust, unfortunately. There were literally only a few chips, I ended up having a mostly vanilla cup, which is fine but I need ingredients, especially the ones that are supposed to be standard. I’m not asking for packed but just not sparse. Again, please note this comment is ONLY reflective of the Capannari manufacturer, not their distributors. Finally...please visit Triple Scoop’d- best ice cream shop we’ve had in Park Ridge and the best you can get in the...
Read moreOn June 11th around 7:15 p.m., I stopped by this ice cream shop in Park Ridge with my teen and 9-year-old son. As soon as we walked in, a young woman with blonde hair in a ponytail was at the counter. She didn’t greet us, didn’t ask if we needed help, or even say a word- just stared at us. I ended up greeting “her” first.
Moments later, another family walked in and was immediately greeted warmly by not just her but also multiple staff members who came from the back. It was hard not to notice the difference in how we were treated compared to them. As a Latina woman, I found this difference in treatment disheartening and unprofessional. It felt racially discriminatory, and that is not something I can overlook.
I believe in supporting local businesses, but not when minority customers are treated differently. For this reason, I do not recommend this establishment and will not be returning. I do not want my kids to feel that kind of energy when we’re just out trying to enjoy some ice cream.
I will say, there was one staff member-black hair in a ponytail and wearing a tie-dye shirt-who was super friendly and had great customer service. She was the only one who made us feel welcome.
I hope the management sees this and makes some changes, because every customer deserves to be treated...
Read moreMy kids love coming here on summer nights, and so we had them come to our house for a birthday party. It was $150 for the little ice cream cart to come and for a party with 27 kids, it ended up being $420. I informed the owner I thought it was $6 per ice cream cup and the total was $150 (for 25 kid scoops) plus any additional cups (which would be reasonable). I was wrong. Just coming to my house with a cart (and my house is about 1.5 minutes away) was $150. After the party, I told the owner the ice cream was so cold, I had to microwave each cup (about 30 cups…we had a line of fairly patient 4 to 6 year olds waiting for ice cream in my kitchen since chipping away at ice cream with plastic spoons wasn’t working). We told them Elsa and Olaf were here (which is why the ice cream was extra frozen) and the owner knocked off $75 (half the cart fee). To give some context, the Kona ice truck was a much bigger hit for our birthday party last year and our block party this year, and with tip, $150 total both times. I know this is ice cream and not snow cones, but it’s $6/per one kid scoop and it’s so frozen, you cannot eat it unless you microwave it. So this is a racket to get an ice cream cart for an hour with frozen pre-scooped ice cream. Would recommend on a summer night but not...
