I knew this place on web search near my place , think that consider high rating , I went there on the June 7 with my boyfriend for dinner , it was big big disappointment, 1st we order crispy calamari and fried chicken as appetizers, both skin wet and soft especially the calamari just feel soft and oily , totally is failure , I told the waitress about it , they tried to fixed it to refry the calamari again however it make it so so oily , little burn and chewy, it really kill my taste bud , we can’t eat it , they did cancelled it .As main dish we order premium sushi 12 pieces , I won’t say it bad but no good at all , it’s no as fresh as I expected ! You know what , I am not sure the chefs handle the raw fish that professionally well, I saw at the sushi bar they placed all the fishes over lapping to each other like 3 pieces in one stack , just imagine it’s raw fish , if the fish not proper kept in the right temperature it will grow bacteria easily just in 1 hours especially hot weather ,imagine the meat at the middle stack consider at the dangerous zone . if the owner you see my reviews, good for you .. Why I gave 1 star because the matcha tea .i don’t feel like order anything else at all , it kills my appetite completely. Its my honest review....
Read moreI was shocked to learn of this new sushi restaurant in Bergen County just minutes from home.
Ive eaten at some of the best NYC sushi establishments (Noz, Ginza, Masa, etc) and to have this quality of sushi in Norwood NJ which as a town is not a dining hub, not at a major crossroads, and aside from driving 30 mins to Fort Lee has no peers in terms of quality of sushi —- it’s as much bewildering as it is a dream come true.
The quality and treatment of the fish (both the omakase as well as larger platter), rice, house made soy sauce and accompanying rolls are all superb and for a price that feels like half of what we were used to paying for a comparable offering in NYC. The packaging is beautiful and sustainable as well. This place is nothing like the typical neighborhood places in the area. It is traditionally styled sushi where the product shines and is not buried in sauces or cream cheese or “crunchy”.
Although we have some great Italian and Korean restaurants in the near vicinity, there is somewhat of a void of high quality options of other varieties nearby. I hope this new restaurant serves as a case study for what this area is calling out for. Best of luck to Okinami - I hope you are embraced by...
Read moreThe best sushi, period. It's one of my favorite spots to eat in the area. I've been going here since they opened during covid. At that time they were only doing take out, and even then I was pretty blown away.
I've been going here consistently for the past few years and they deserve all the praise. From the quality of the ingredients to the friendliness of the staff, everything is amazing!
It is HARD to find good sushi in the area, and trust me I've tried. There are decent ones out there, but none do it like Okinami. They are better than so many sushi joints not just in the area but in NYC as well.
I'm so happy to support the fine folks behind Okinami. Wonderful people and wonderful food. Seriously, if you're in the area don't skip this one. Even if you're far away, it is worth the travel!! Skip the city date...
