We ordered 3 rice bowls for lunch. The food was fresh and delicious. The flavors were awesome. Be prepared to spend $13 or $15 per person, before drinks.
There is no seating, so this is a take-out place only. Pick up food on the way to work, or dinner on the way home. They are closed Wednesdays and Sundays.
STEP 1: RICE OR SALAD BASE We tried the regular rice and the seasoned rice. Both types were scooped from the same rice pan. For the seasoned rice, the flavor was drizzled on from a dressing bottle. The consistency and flavor of rhe rice was good.
STEP 2: PROTEIN We tried the steak and tofu. The kalbi (steak) was delicious, and cubed in nice bite-sized pieces. The tofu was 1 large piece. It was cooked flavorfully, but I found the large piece difficult to eat with chopsticks. I would have liked it to be cubed into bite-sized pieces like the steak. Also, it seemed extra salty to me.
STEP 3: TOPPINGS We tried tomatoes, jalapeños, garlic, green onions, cabbage, carrots, kimchi, seaweed salad, and diakon. All the toppings were good. Here, it is your preference for flavor combinations, but in my opinion the jalapeños did not blend well with the other flavors. The fresh vegetables were great. The toppings offered seem to vary from day to day, with quite a few more options available than what is just shown on the printed menu. For instance, there was cucumber kimchi in addition to the regular (cabbage) kimchi listed. I've noticed that the business owner lists some of these supplemental toppings on the business Facebook page. However, I did not see them posted inside the store. A list of all toppings would have been helpful. You can look in the prep counter and see the toppings that are available, though (think Subway counter). The person who helped us at the counter was quite friendly and explained any toppings we were unfamiliar with. He seemed to indicate that he had prepared them himself.
STEP 4: SAUCE We tried 3 different sauces (spicy mayo, barbecue, and yummy sauce). All three sauces were good. The flavors of a lot of the toppings would have made a tasty rice bowl without adding any sauces, so you may want to consider adding sauces if you have more bland selections (plain rice with carrots and cabbage), or being careful of adding sauces that combine too many flavors if you have more seasoned selections (like the seasoned rice with marinated steak, garlic and, seaweed). I could have skipped the sauce and still had a ton of flavors in my rice bowl.
Overall, I recommend this place and plan to return to try more items...
Read moreWONDERFUL food! The owner served us, and was happy to explain everything. He also said that online ordering is in the works - Please be patient, he's running it all by himself. HUGE SERVING - It's enough for 3 or 4 meals for my LapBand, 2 meals for Mom. $13-15 per bowl - FABULOUS price!
This is the Pork Pinoy - the sauce isn't hot or American BBq - it's an Asian sauce that's sweet, with a hint of spices but NO HEAT. The Chicken Yakitori is a savory sauce w sweet. I'll edit after trying the Beef & Tofu. The pic is after I mixed mine together, lol.
The pork is falling apart in my mouth, and the whole thing is like heaven in a bowl!
The veggies & pickles & toppings are well varied & all are chopped in the right sizes. Carrots are thin strips. Cucumber is chunks. Every bite has different things in it once you start eating - which is the whole idea behind rice & poke bowls.
I highly suggest you try the Sweet Daikon Pickle. It's in chunks, and it's CRUNCHY! If you like radishes, try the Radish Pickle. Pickles are added to be a crunchy, sweet or sour or hot, flavor with great toothsome texture.
Fried garlic is NUMMY, sesame seeds are a must for me.
My bowl was Pork Pinoy. I asked for half greens, half rice (the first of several requests he happily granted!). I asked for & got the Rice Seasoning & Pork sauce on top of both. Then, I had the Pork Pinoy meat, carrots, cucumber, sweet daikon pickle & sesame seeds on top. Mom had the Chicken Yakitori w the same toppings, but, she had the Miso on top. I had more of the Pinoy sauce on top.
BEST. RICE. BOWL. They're better than the Poke place in St Louis, and they're Brand New! 13/10 recommend! Go at 3 or 4pm,...
Read moreSaves me from the wrath of a dragon 🐉 (hungry Filipino wife). With limited Filipino restaurant options, I feel like I found a diamond in the rough. We passed this place many times before knowing it existed. One day on Google maps I saw "Yummy rice bowls", and told my wife because she mainly eats rice with everything. She was reluctant at first but warmed up very quickly after arriving and now it is her favorite go to when we are in the O'fallon area. She really applauds the pork Pinoy and all the different fixings. I think it is great too and I am your typical steak and potatoes guy. Great place and format for anyone to go in quickly and get a nice healthy and tasty meal. I personally, much prefer that over spending much more money at a restaurant or spending about the same amount or less at fast food, which is just over processed junk food that you end up paying for more with your health down the road. Best wishes to the folks at this business, I hope it continues to thrive. After all, happy...
