Best quick over all description…… kind of like a much smaller Wall Drug in a way. Plenty of similarities, and some differences.

This is located about 150 (or about a 2hr drive) East of Wall Drug, and right on I-90 yet as well. There are clothing options, and a diner, setting the stage to kind of be like Wall Drug. But here’s the kicker…. this place was technically established in 1919, whereas Wall Drug wasn’t until 1931. So, why did Wall drug get so much bigger? Perhaps the constant and larger expansions? Perhaps advertising? Not really sure, but this place can really call the claim of being the first, as it’s often labeled as an attempt to copy Wall Drug, whereas Wall Drug came second.

You’ll also find a full blown grocery store here. Not a little convenience store to get essentials, but literally a full grocery store. You’ll also find in there selections of localized items both for souvenirs and also food items like cheeses.

You will not find nearly the selection here as Wall Drug. Not for clothes, not for dining, not for the eclectic stores. But, you’ll also not find the sizable grocery store (if you’re needing groceries), and the diner here is more of a home town feel, as opposed to the busy chaos of Wall Drug. Not to mention, if you are coming from the East, you’ll get here 2hrs sooner.

However, if you have time, I’d go to both. Wall Drug certainly takes the cake over all. But if you’re traveling and have a bit of time, hitting both should just be something...

First off, you'll be better off going to Arby's. Seriously I am beside myself with how awful this breakfast was, it was barely a meal, so light weight, they burnt the hash browns and then put nacho cheese sauce on top of my omelette... Why would anyone put this type of cheese on an omelette with bison sausage and onions and mushrooms, it is blowing my mind. It would have been better to just leave it off.. see attached photo, I can't imagine anyone being ok with this.... Plus, I walked all the way back to my truck before realizing they did not include my blueberry muffin, which also ended up being the best item, even though it was tiny and not homemade... I feel so taken... And when I asked them about my burnt hash browns, they said that's how they do then when someone asks for them extra crispy, which I didn't, but that didn't seem to concern them. You need to have someone in the kitchen who knows how to cook. I should have looked before I went out to my truck, I would have left it, even having paid. It was that bad, I don't even know that I could have given this to a homeless person. For fear I would have got hit in the back of my head with the plate of food by the homeless person. I hope the owner sees this review and fires everyone in the kitchen. You don't have to be a great cook to be able to pull off a simple breakfast order. I would have been better off eating the taxidermy bison in the. Lobby . Ugh 😩...

2 Adult 2 kids 81 dollars. We got seated relatively quick, we looked over the menu we ordered drinks, after a while we ordered an appetizer of onion rings for our family of 4 it was 9 dollars and it was maybe 9 rings, one meal was the classic burger single patty with the basic toppings and a side of fries was 15 dollars next order was the als burger a single patty with cheese and sauteed onions, the onions weren't though with a side of fries 15 dollars, kids meals are 7 dollars each 1 got chicken strips and fries, another wanted chicken strips and a grilled cheese just the sandwich, they couldn't do that so we paid for 2 meals for them and when they came back they had Mac n cheese and something else the server never set it down after I told him the Mac and cheese was wrong, he then left the Mac n cheese went back to the kitchen and got a grilled cheese and brought it out I told him again we didn't order Mac n cheese and repeated what we ordered, he took the Mac n cheese and brought the chicken strips, when we were done we got boxes for our kids and the check, you have to use the servers tablet to pay and you pick between 3 different % for a tip there isn't an option for no tipping, the servers were difficult to wave down after you got seated, the decor is rustic country and was probably our favorite thing about the place, the food wasn't very good, we paid 81 dollars...

This is a very big place. I did order from the restaurant and my bison burger was so awesome especially with the rice. I didn't want fries which comes with the meal. They do have dine-in service. The staff didn't seem too friendly so this is the main reason why I left a 4-star. But over all the people in the grocery store were very nice. They have Carryout Service if you need help bringing things to your truck or car. There's a bank inside and also there is a clothing and novelty store, kind of like a trading post. I did forget the ladies name but inside the actual clothing store she said that the Al's shopping center is about 100 years old. So she have people that had shopping there for many years, sometimes come by to say 👋 hi.. that is so cool! Hmmm.... if it's that old...I wonder if it's haunted after hours?🤔 It's all-in-one nonstop shopping. In the clothing / novelty store ask for the buck saving card. Earn 10% off regular price items when the hole punches are all punch. I love this... I remember certain places had this method back, in the days with the hole punching cards. And if you'd like to stay near-by, there is a Wyndham Hotel right next door. For semi-truck drivers please park across the street from Al's Shopping Center.
