So, I have frequented this place under the current owners for some time. Some of the food is good, some is not, all is subject to personal opinion. That being said, I usually sit at the bar and have a drink or two as part of my visit. Several years ago, Owner was charging $8.50 for a well drink when the going rate in the area (Fullers, LaGrange bars, etc.) was $6.00. That was 33% higher, which many of us thought was gouging. I, and many other patrons, stopped going there as a result. About a month ago, I had to meet someone there, and he had a well mixed drink that was $8.00, down from before, but still significantly above the going rate which had gone to $6.50. I had a good sandwich, so I stopped in today, about four weeks later.. Well drinks are now $10.00, an absurd amount, about 25% higher than just a month ago, and about 50% higher than the still-going rate of $6.50. So, if ya want a businessman who screws and gouges his customers, this is the place to go. As for myself, he lost my food and drink business, he lost my referral business, and he gained a lot of negative press. I hope the greed paid off jackass, just like it...
Read moreThe service was excellent. The food wasn’t, and in fact was disappointing. Perhaps a place using the word “tavern” gets away with a casual bar atmosphere and mediocre food. That would explain a lot, and maybe if I had tempered my expectations accordingly, I could let it go. The Chopped Salad I had was unimaginative, under-portioned and over-priced. It was a medium-sized bowl of flimsy lettuce strips, a teaspoon of the smallest kernels of corn I’ve ever seen, 3-4 tiny cherry tomatoes, and a few pieces of avocado no larger than the size of small sugar cubes. A few wafer-thin tortilla strips looked thrown in for some token crunch. That standard bowl was without any meat. A Chicken Chopped Salad from Portillo’s or the Southwest Chicken Salad at Chick-fil-A would’ve been cheaper, yet infinitely larger, fresher and tastier. My friend had a plate of ravioli that looked not much larger than something from the kids’ menu. Both of our selections were “entrees,” which for the prices further added to the disappointment. No way we’ll...
Read moreI was here on Sunday with some friends. Our server Ivette (I believe is her name) made it seem like we were an inconvenience when asking for certain things. More drinks, a side of pizza sauce, just slight extra things. Now, it was not terribly busy. All of us ladies were servers and waitresses before. We know how stressful it can be and how busy it can become! However, not asking for refills, not checking in on anything with us until the ending of our meal is disappointing. we ended up having to get up out of our seats to go get more drinks. For a meatball sandwich it’s 2 meatballs but in half. We had no problem paying for the additional charge of cheese and it being on garlic bread. However for the base price without the add-ons, I feel like I should be getting more MEAT for $13.50, it’s truthfully disappointing on the price of things for the amount of actual meat that you get on the sandwich. The food was good but the service could be improved...
