With some friends, we are on a quest to find good Mexican food in the Southwest Pittsburgh area. Most places are just so- so, so imagine how pleased we were to find this place! What you get here is not from the corporate distributor who seem to be the suppliers of almost all the other "Mexican" restaurants around. For one, look at their logo - the Marlin indicates that they come from the region around Acapulco and they feature many fish and seafood dishes from that region. Of course, they do Americanize their dishes, but they managed to maintain the flavors that we've been looking for.
For this visit, we decided to try the fajitas, Alembra, and Enchiladas in Mole sauce. All were full of flavor and nicely presented. See the pictures for an idea of how these dishes come.
The staff are the owners. While the parents cook, the son is the waiter. Since it was early and the place was not busy, we had the chance to chart about Mexico, the restaurant, and the food. Service was excellent - and not just because of our discussions. When other patrons showed up, we saw them get the same great service.
The place has been open for a little more than a year now. We will certainly come again to try some more of their...
Read moreEl Marron just celebrated their first anniversary of being in business.
I visited here for lunch and grabbed the El Marro burrito filled with tender steak and fresh peppers and rice. They have the best horchata in town made with ground sesame seads morro and cinnamon. I got some in a large plastic container to go, drank half, and saved the rest for the next day. I was able to add some more mill and stir up the ingredients that had settled below, and it was excellent.
Inside the seating is modest. This, the location has seating ideal for a party of four with chairs and tables along the windows as seen in the website photos.
I think the service here is great. The staff are friendly and seem to take pride in their food prep and delivery.
I also got a Saturday carry out order for the family. I got enchilades verdes, tacos alambre, kid's queaadilla with steak, and quesabrilla tacos. They were all a hit with the fam, and I would definitely visit again and rank them for my number 1 in the area for Mexican food in the area.
PS....You can grab ice cream next door...
Read morePaid $80 for 6 tacos, a burrito, chips and salsa, queso, guacamole, 2 elotes...did order rice but didn't get it with the rest of our food and we didn't order drinks cause the food in my opinion was already over priced being that in most cases chips and salsa is free with your meal, and a meal usually includes whatever main dish and sides of rice and beans at Mexican restaurans but not here. The best thing out of what we ordered was the queso...the rest of the food was ok, it was kind of blandish but it was not inedible. Most likely wouldn't go there again though just to be honest, cause if I can make it better at home myself why pay someone else to do it and not do it better than you and then pay premium prices for it too. Man do I miss some good $1-$2 taco truck tacos in the San Joaquin valley in California! Talk about good flavor and at a price you can afford to actually feed a family on! Have not been able to find a place since moving to Pa that can compare to them flavors or...
