I was so excited to see that a brand new coffee shop had opened in Oakdale Minnesota. The city has been in need of a local, independent coffee shop for so long, and we have been stuck only having national chains.
This coffee shop is still in their soft opening phase, so the full menu wasn’t available, but I was really impressed with the sweet and unique offerings that were on the menu.
My brother and I ordered two coffees, I had a coffee that was called the lumber, Jane and my brother had a turtle mocha type of drink. Both were absolutely delicious, the espresso was rich, bold, and the combination of sugar, and the different flavors like sea salt and maple, really made these coffee drinks stand out.
The cost of the drinks ranged from about $6.50 to $7.50. The coffee was very good, definitely better tasting and higher quality than somewhere like Starbucks. The coffee shop also had a variety of bars and other sweet treats, but I did not try any this time.
The space that the coffee shop is housed in is a brand new apartment building, and there is so much comfortable seating, with great lighting, big wide windows, and a relaxing and productive atmosphere. This is a great place to work and have some coffee, or meet friends. I’m really surprised and impressed and so happy that a place and space like this finally exists in Oakdale Minnesota.
I will definitely come back here again, as a matter of fact, as someone who drinks coffee every single day, I don’t think I will ever go to another chain again, now that this place is so close. All the staff and all of the barista were very friendly and happy and they gave me great suggestions. It would appear that this coffee shop originated in Hudson, Wisconsin, so I wish them the best of luck in this...
Read moreI always visit their Hudson location when I am nearby and have really enjoyed the experience. I decided to try this new spot today between my errands and found it very nice indeed. My drink was excellent and the atmosphere is big and open with loads of windows, couches and a small but serviceable play area for children.(With the notable exception of Sovereign Grounds in S Mpls, hardly any coffee shops offer anything for little kids to do, bring your small kids here I am sure they will love it for at least long enough for you to enjoy a few sips) Plus you will need someone to keep watch over that Storm trooper at the coffee bar. Anyway I was alone and enjoyed the music, the coffee and an hour on a comfortable couch with my computer. I really appreciate having options in the burbs and small towns like Hudson. I do live in Minneapolis where many excellent cafes/coffee spots reside, ones I go to nearly everyday, still when out and about I love having cool options. I see some reviews comparing this spot to the top cafes in the big city and I personally see no point in that snobbery. I go to all of the shops and can say all of my Ember & Bean drinks have been very well crafted and all of the employees have been kind, even when the Hudson location is slammed. Never anything but great experiences. Ember and Bean crushes the big chains in every way that is most important to me and they have kind local ownership that has a great origin story. So glad they are making it happen and expanding. Five stars all day. Also FWIIW they have ready nice 'for here' drink mugs....
Read moreIt’s a new space, so I plan to revisit once they get it all figured out (and will adjust the review). The bakery items are totally flavorless - banana bread, blueberry muffin, no flavor at all. The coffees were ok. I was hoping for better than over roasted coffee like everything else around here - Starbucks, caribou, etc. and they were. But they were not as good as some of the city roasters - five watt, spyhouse, and certainly not dogwood. The pour-over was a Honduran washed and the flavor profile was nice but watered down. It was poured a little too quick and too little coffee ground for the 16oz I ordered (probably measured for a 12oz). The lumberjack latte was decent. I go through about a pound of coffee each week and usually order through dogwood or Duluth coffee and will probably continue. I get my 12oz bags of beans for $14-18 through these other local roasters instead of $28 a bag here at ember. The space inside is cold and empty and feels like a business lobby- I’m thinking (and hoping) many of these things will be taken care...
