My wife and I went here last Thursday after a 5 hour flight. It was our first time in California and we were ready to try the cuisine and starved from the trip. The fig looked like a perfect fit, locally owned and fresh ingredients! Just our style!

We arrived and ordered our food, still soaking in the new state and experience. After quite a while another group came in, ordered and sat down. A little later we were told they were still working on our food. Meanwhile the new party got theirs. No big deal right? They brought us our unsweetened tea finally and again apologized for the delay, even offered us a piece of cake. We of course accepted because we were starving as I said. Meanwhile two other groups come in, orders, and sits down. After several minutes they all received their meals.

At this point I was getting angry and went to ask about our food. The staff were all inside (it was a nice day and most guests were outside) just standing and talking.

I inquired about our meal and mentioned it had been 45 minutes for their signature burger and a chicken sandwich. They said their computer was down and it’d be another 15 minutes. At this point I was fully angry and we had things to do on our vacation, so I said I was leaving. They did offer a refund which I accepted, but after all of that, none of which was our fault. These “fine folks” saw fit to charge us 7 dollars for our two unsweetened teas we had while sitting outside enduring their incompetence.

How did three other parties get fully served if the computers were down? Sounds like bs to me.

I always did wonder how the people in Cali have such a bad reputation, I guess I get it now. The vibe was also weird.

We went up the road about 10 minutes and had a great lunch, in and out in under 30 minutes. I’d suggest out of towners to skip this pretentious incompetent snob fest and go up the street.

On a positive note we had great experiences everywhere else we ate on our trip, so it was apparently just this...

Wild Fig Kit. has great food and espresso!!! They are open for breakfast & lunch which are both served all day - closed Monday & Tuesday. Even though orders are taken at the register and water, silverware, and condiments are self service, the service was good, as our order was brought to us very quickly. Our food was delicious. The burger was cooked perfectly (Tasted better than our homemade burgers!!!) It was accompanied by a small cup overfilled with Fresh fruit: blueberries, blackberries, orange & grapfruit wedges, watermelon, 'green' melon, pineapple, etc. The french toast was also exceptional because of the challah bread and not oversweet even though liberally covered with powdered sugar. (Will ask if they could offer french toast (less sugar) as a mini breakfast along with eggs and bacon.) The espresso is the best! We ate in the patio garden under majestic walnut, maple and sycamore trees.

Wild Fig K. is one of the best restaurants anywhere and just 20 minutes away from our home, so wonder why it took us so long for us to try. Maybe try the Sunday brunch soon, as...

Quick Summary Easy parking and nice outdoor patio area (although can get hot). Food was a bit mediocre and they also forgot one of our group's order.

Food- 3 stars French toast Monte Cristo- this was pretty disappointing. Turkey was dry and the sandwich really just didn't work at all. Very sloppy mix of french toast, apple, turkey and syrup.

Brisket sandwich- this was ok. I liked it alot more than the Monte Cristo, but it's basically a standard brisket sandwich

Service- 3 stars Service was decent for me, as I was able to get my food pretty quickly in this fast-casual environment. However, they did forget one of our group's orders completely and despite checking on the order twice, they finally admitted they lost the ticket and cancelled the whole order

Ambiance- 4 stars Some indoor seating with a large outdoor seating patio, which can be nice when the weather is nice. There are a ton of flies and the place did get pretty hot, so wasn't the most comfortable

Bottom Line It's decent. Would just drive down to Fresno for better options if you're heading back...

With all the excitement of vacation and travel, I didn't get this post out earlier when we were at Wild Fig Kitchen in Coarsegold, California. The family that owns this amazing restaurant did a fantastic job making the wedding rehearsal dinner and wedding reception night magical for the bride and groom as well as the guests. If you are in Oakhurst, California as you are venturing off into Yosemite National Park or Bass Lake, California, stop by for breakfast or lunch. You won't be disappointed. The food is incredible - five star ingredients, staff, and decor - in a small town with people in shorts and flip flops. Don't forget to stop by the shops in this shopping area, especially Blagojce Stojanovski's art gallery. He is a famous painter who set up shop in this quiet town. He paints daily in his studio where he is welcoming and a joy to discuss painting and art.
