Customer for ten years. Some employees don't like the upscale area I live in in proximity to the store. The Mexican guy likes to give me the run around when I call. Pretends not to understand me, makes me repeat myself. It's because I'm a minority also, except I'm not a "Pisa" working at the Pizza place; I'm in the area where all homes are over one million dollars. Figures "you have it easy, here's what a little frustration feels like." Happens every time I call in (less and less as a result).
Happened again and I called the manager. She was recalcitrant, defensive of the employee though she never listened to the call in question, nor even thoroughly read my extensive email or digested my verbal comments. It felt really condescending.
I mean, I'm ten years into a legal career out of Cal Berkeley. I have been a customer for ten years since this place opened, when I met the Egyptian franchisee. I have lived in the priciest neighborhood of Oakland for ten years. Obviously, my account of an experience/opinion should have credibility. After all I manage a much larger business.
Wanting to make the issue go away, the young inexperienced female manager exclaimed, argumentatively "Can I speak now? You haven't let me talk...(I had to fill her in-I then listened to her silently)... May I offer you a suggestion?" ... Lol, I'm thinking this gal must be Asian, I mean, who says that, right...I guess she means "Suggested Explanation"....
The manager was totally arrogant, demanding rudely I listen to her, then offering "Suggestions" or suggested explanations as to what had transpired... Though she clearly hadn't read my email in the last hour to her, or thought about what I was saying, or talked to her employee.
Silly, the kind of people that manage a 🍕 place!
Fact: $2500+ in orders for pizza went elsewhere after the first experience with the guy in question. So hundreds in business lost at this location. After all, no difference between them and say "Cybelles" downtown or "City Center Pizzeria."
And now, since management was just trying to save face rather than apologize for poor service-they'll lose hundreds more. That is how it works.
Sad how hard phone orders are, how people get personal/overfamiliar. Rude and assuming. Play games.
The success of DoorDash etc. is partly because all of this is avoided.
I was actually about to use Grub Hub. This restaurant charges a $3.99 "delivery" fee for that, to cover their commission. But they deliver for free via their website and phone orders. They like to pass their advertising fee on to the customer.
How lovely of them. Really unethical.
So I wound up calling, rather than deal with their tedious website process. And again, the older Hispanic guy gave me the run around.
There's no satisfying people at these joints. After all, I'm not an immigration attorney.
Oakland Highlands sucks, really. Nothing like a real affluent community. I would know, I've been here ten years-and I came from a nicer...
Read moreWe live in the neighborhood so we do our best to support the restaurant. We've met the owners and they are delightful but years later I think I'm giving up. Every time we go there is some sort of an issue. Wrong items, missing items, ridiculously slow service, you name it. Every single time we get take out they screw up the order and have mostly fixed it but why do I need to check every little thing? They have given us credits that were mysteriously missing the next time we come in... Last night we didn't get an online confirmation so we called ahead and was told it was ready. Upon arrival my kid was handed the order and headed out. I was elated it was actually ready but then I realized they didn't give her all the food... ah yes there it is... The food is delicious for sure but it's just not worth it anymore. And our favorite, the garlic cheese bread has gone from 4 large slices to 2 smallish dry crusts of bread (note the penny for scale) for 6 BUCKS?!?
SHORT VERSION- food is good but for the price I'd go elsewhere unless you don't mind not getting what...
Read moreHave not been there in a few years, always like their sourdough pizza...I ordered fettuccine Alfredo and chicken, it was good that's why you got a 2 but the small ham and pineapple pizza was the worst pizza I ever had anywhere..a bit burnt seemed over cooked or stale the crust was ,the pizza just didn't taste fresh....couldn't taste the ham or pineapple, the pineapple was dry with no taste, also the ham are small pieces and not much meat.. After the second piece i gave up eating...it was just bad and i love pizza, so sad I'm not going...
