Great BBQ spot! Stopped in on a trip across state because I heard about how good it was.
I was there mid day on a Saturday and it wasn’t super crowded, so I could look around and spend some time. No live music (middle of the day), but the music being played was great. The decor is kitschy and fun. Essentially a cobbled together shed with multiple outbuildings all linked together as they’ve grown. The decor wasn’t like a dirty old barn, but thoughtfully put together and clean for an indoor/outdoor place. While I waited for my combo of pulled pork, brisket, beans, and potato salad, I sent my friends pics of the place. They were all jealous.
I ordered 2 beers and was only 1 through when they called out my name. Maybe about 15 min - not a long time to wait for such a high caliber of food. Also, the menu is great - shows in great and colorful detail what you’re eating and how long the pitmasters have been up that day while you were still fast asleep (think MANY hours for most of the offerings).
Onto the food. Sides: beans were a winner with the right amount of spice, sweet, and not overcooked or mushy. They’d make Bush’s go out of business! The potato salad was also a winner and had the right balance of mayo and onion and spice. Now, the meat... The pulled pork and sauce was amazing and I will be back for more (the many BBQ trophies sitting in a sort of winners circle/shrine are testament enough until you eat it yourself - then you wish you could give them a trophy yourself. Order the pulled pork BBQ. The brisket, unfortunately less so since it was a little dry, but after a 14 hour cook and they probably to thousands of pounds of it a week was forgivable, since the sauce is so amazing.
Cool and quirky gift shop is fun and you would like the TShirt designs and other swag there. They also have places where you can carve your initials, take a plastic fork and stick a dollar to it and attach it to a wall to say “you were here”.
While I didn’t hear any live blues, country, jazz, etc, you could assume this IS the place to go at night and eat your fill and drink from like 100+ beer choices, and a full bar.
Go to this place, I know I will be back!!!
Revision - have been back maybe 5 times since original review. Still super cool spot that is post Covid friendly and super clean. Still, pork is the best. Found the brisket dry again today. Takes a few times ordering things to get your favs. Awesome staff, efficient, friendly,...
Read moreWe couldn’t pass up the world famous The Shed since we are visiting Ocean Springs. I’ll begin by saying yes we will eat here again anytime we are in the area. As with every single famous bbq team restaurant you must know you’re not going to get competition quality at their restaurants. We have traveled far and wide to eat bbq across America and have been greatly disappointed in the past. We went in with no great expectations. Here’s what we found: Atmosphere is awesome and what you want in your bbq joint. The staff were fast and friendly. I heard them taking the time to answer some questions for the guests in front of us and I was impressed by how they listened and took the time to explain things. It took maybe 7 or 8 minutes to receive our order after ordering. We had enough time to grab our drinks and find a table to accommodate our group. We decided to sit outside by the stage and it was perfect. The fans kept the air moving and the bugs away. The turkey is hands down the best bbq restaurant turkey we have ever had. It’s so smoky and juicy. There was nothing even remotely dry about the turkey. It had a perfect bite to it. The sausage was so so. It was good but it definitely wasn’t anything to write home about. The pulled pork could’ve been so much better. The sauce was just super underwhelming. The pieces of pork that didn’t have much sauce had a great flavor. The sliced brisket was the same way. The pieces with not much sauce had an awesome beef flavor. It was super juicy and flavorful but the sauce took so much away from the meat. The potato salad was good. The slaw was really good. It tasted very close to our homemade slaw. The collards are a must. I wish I had some pepper sauce with me. They were so smoky and delicious. The hushpuppies were good. The okra was your average pre-breaded frozen okra but it wasn’t terrible. The only thing we got that I would never eat again and can not recommend are the ribs. If you like no smoke flavor, boiled all day in a crockpot, then drowned in some off the shelf sauce then they are for you. They were mushy with zero bite to them. Yes this review is critical but we are bbq snobs. Like I said before we will be eating here again. I’d give the staff ten stars if I could. Next time I’ll see if they can go easy or no sauce on the meat to see how it really tastes. I’ll also definitely order a bunch...
Read moreThis place has some of the best BBQ I have ever had in my life! I have traveled around this country and have had BBQ from many places, and the style that they have here at the Shed is perfect. I can see how they are an award-winning restaurant. You can really taste the care that they take in making their food. There was not a dish that I had from them that I did not like. I tried every meat dish they had on my first visit. The smoked chicken wings were sweet and smokey. I personally like my chicken wings spicey, but this was a new take for me, and it was great. The brisket was melted in my mouth! The chew was mouth-watering and easy to bite. The flavor is right on point, not too heavy with smoke, and the flavor of the meat highlights itself without sauce. The baby-back ribs fall off the bone. The sauce covered every inch of this dish and sticks to your bones! Man, this was good. If you love ribs and brisket, you will not be disappointed. Then there is the pulled pork. Just like everything else, the pulled pork was tender and easy to bite through. I destroyed it without sauce because the smoke flavor tasted so good. I forgot to make a sandwich out of it. As for the sides, I have never been a sides guy other than coleslaw, but I had to try them all. The pasta salad is like no other, sweet and creamy but not too sweet. The Potatoe salad was perfect, and I hate potato salad. The potato salad was more like a mashed potatoes with chunks of potatoes in it. It's hard to explain, but all I know is that I would eat that every day. The coleslaw was just perfect, slightly sweet, and not too tangy. The beans were nothing to write home about, but it's also hard to mess up beans. The atmosphere is very homie and southern. There is live Blue's playing in the background. People can sit inside or outside by the river. This place has so much stuff to look at you might want to bring a neck brace to make sure you don't hurt yourself. If you are near Biloxi, Mississippi, you better look up The Shed and stop by, or else you will miss...
