We're passing through. I guess no one eats lunch at 2:00pm in Ogalalla? We stopped at three restaurants and no one was in the parking lot. We ended up stopping at this place. Again, no cars in the parking lot.
This restaurant has signs that say they are a family-owned fast food restaurant. You go in and order at the counter/bar, pay, and find yourself a table. They bring your food out. When you're done, you clean up after yourselves and place your dishes at the designated area. I won't get into the tip debate for a place like this, but we did tip.
I got the Buckin' Burrito and the husband got the Patty Melt. They have a nice variety of food. The young ladies were courteous. Food smelled and looked great. Husband had no complaints about the Patty Melt, however, my burrito wasn't that great.
Real quick - the burrito was a lot smaller than I imagined considering all the ingredients it contains. It made for a delicious tasting burrito, but the steak meat was tough and chewy and many pieces were the fatty parts. Definitely not the greatest part of the cow is used. It would probably help if they thinly sliced the beef instead of cutting them into cubes. Also, I've never had a burrito with fries. Some tortilla chips with a small side of salsa would be a better pairing. Just my recommendation. Otherwise, it would have been a great burrito.
I would give this restaurant a second try if we were in town again, but maybe order...
Read moreOn our way from Iowa to Colorado, we were sick of fast food and looking for nice local sit down restaurant. Reviews for Open Range Grill looked good so we decided to take a chance. It was packed when we arrived but we ordered our food pretty quickly. We headed outside to the patio with the kids so they could run around and waited. And waited. And waited. We finally went inside to inquire about our food after about an hour. It looked like at least four other annoyed groups who ordered ahead of us were waiting as well. After the manager (?) was through taking care of those parties, we were able to get her attention and she told us she would look into it for us. To be fair, they did get the kids some fries and chocolate milks at that point. So we settled into a booth inside and waited another 20 minutes for our order which only consisted of the burger special of the day, a cobb salad, a kid's hot dog and a kid's quesadilla. When the food did finally get there, all I can say is that it was okay. I've had much better and I've had worse. So all in all, our side trip to get some decent food and stretch our legs a bit turned into 2 hours, 10 minutes of which was spent eating. So, I would say if you're staying near the lake and don't mind waiting around if you need to for food, this is the restaurant for you. If you're on the road and don't have hours to spend,...
Read moreThis outdoorsy wooden kind of country building is actually a local restaurant. I was fooled, I say!!! Upon entering the long ramp up to the doors, I was eager to see what's inside.
This very spacious, hearty countryside restaurant was extremely unique. There are multiple rooms available for a variety of activities and festivities. If you keep walking all the to the back, they do offer out of doors gatherings. I would have loved to see the staff more engaging as a new customer with questions about their eatery. Next time, I'm sure. 😉
WOW! I just fell in love with this beefy bacon cheesey burger, and the side items were fried pickles and greenbeans. The burger was magnificent and beefy. The toppings, tomatoes, pickles, and onions were sliced just right to accent this beefy burger.
The fried pickles and green beans are heavily coated in batter with a delicious flavor, but both items are spicy. I was a little disappointed in the spice level in these two side items. I was not able to enjoy either one of them. They have many other side items to try, and I will be...
