Friday decided to drive out to Washington Courthouse to check out Horney’s Barbeque. Arrived at opening and met the owner Steve and Dude his dog. Steve is from Texas and has been in the BBQ business for 26 years. He is using hickory wood for smoking his meats. I ordered the Macaroni and cheese, a sampling of the chili. A little of everything as far as the meats. The Mac and cheese was okay, nothing really special. The chili for ME was way over seasoned. That may be a Texas style, it had a little meat to it, no beans. On to the stars of the show which was the meats. The ribs were nice and tender, fall off the bone. The brisket was cooked perfectly. Nice tug to pull it apart. The pulled pork had great texture and flavor. I didn’t use any sauce on the meats due to the great smokey flavor impeded by the hickory wood. If you’re in the area them out. Almost forgot the chicken wings. OMG!! These were delicious, great flavor.

Texas barbecue meat. My pulled chicken sandwich was very dry. The wings were decent and hubby mentioned that the ribs were good. For Texas barbecue, I had expected the sides to be Texan as well. The slaw and potato salad tasted and looked like they came out of a container. The baked beans, though happy there was no brisket in them, was more tart and not the full body Texan beans I was hoping for. The atmosphere, well, we were the only patrons and a lot of equipment in the dining area and restrooms. Apologies I didn't have a more positive review to provide!

Passing thru and stopped in for lunch. I had pulled pork sandwich; loaded with fresh juicy tender meat nice rub on the bark; my husband had a brisket sandwich just as delicious! Mac n cheese was cheesie and moist but those bbq baked beans OMG so dang good. Nice tangy bbq sauce little hint of heat. We’ll be back! Stop on in as you head to Hocking State Park or the outlet - they have carry out. Nice folks. Highly recommend.

Luke took great care to make sure that I left satisfied. I started with a plate of ribs and brisket. The ribs win over the brisket because of the flavor--I prefer more smoke flavor in my brisket. Both meats were tender and juicy and the ribs came right off the bone. But the thing that I fell in love with is the Rojo chili. I love the chili because it bites back and the flavor will punch you square in the mouth! Don't take my word for it, head out there soon so you can try it yourself.

Oh, before I forget, the proprietor here has a long family heritage in Fayette County which dates back to the...

I will start by saying I travel the country for work and sometimes my reviews are a little harsh because I've found some phenomenal places to eat and I base my taste on the good ones. Good BBQ is very hard to find, I'm glad I will be working in this area for many months. This place is definitely the real deal. My one and only very, very slight disappointment is that I prefer more smoke, but I also understand most people don't care for that much smoke, so I'm overlooking this as they are probably pleasing the mass. Super tender, not overseasoned or salty. I'm looking forward to trying everything...
