Pepino's — Restaurant in Okemah

We don't often to eat here but when we are passing thru town we try to stop. Past visits had me saying this is one of the better Mexican restaurants around. This visit had me not as certain. I ordered a taco platter which had three deep fried tacos only meat and shell. It was ok. Perhaps it is just the one menu item that didn't excite me. It came with beans and rice which were also good, nothing great. Salsa and cheese set up was excellent and the sopaipilla was delicious. Food was very Good. I had the chile verde. The server said it was not spicy, but she told me it could be made spicy. I asked her to do so. I would say the heat was low/medium. The sauce was a clean, tangy, tomatillo, with maybe some jalapenos for heat.. The meat was tender and juicy. The service was wonderful! Three different ladies came by regularly to check if we needed anything. They are all very nice! We were just passing by crossing the country. So unfortunately we may have a chance to visit again. But if we lived near, Pepino's would be a frequent dining...

I was overall very impressed with this restaurant. The dining area and tables were spotless when we came in for lunch, and our wait staff was quick and attentive. The menu had a wide variety of options as well as many specials for very reasonable prices.

The salsa was some of my favorite that I have had in Oklahoma, even though I usually prefer spicier flavors. However, the queso was a little on the bland side (pro tip, add some salsa into the queso, it tastes so good!).
