Over the past 5 or 6 years we have eaten at Doc's several times including while they were serving in the large meeting hall during their renovation. Last year we had such a bad experience with the wait staff we decided to take Doc's off our list of preferred restaurants . We live in Grove and used to enjoy taking out of town visitors to what was a nice restaurant on Grand Lake. So yesterday, June 13, we decided to take a friend there thinking that after a year things would certainly have improved. Boy were we wrong. We were greeted by a very nice young man who was very pleasant and accommodating. We asked to be seated by a window and he did just that. As we entered the dining area we observed 4 people seated at the bar, not a single person at any of the tables and several other staff members, presumably some of which were waiters and waitress, either standing around talking or on their cell phones. After we were seated and given the "happy hour" menus we were told that our waitress would be right over to take our drink orders. Shortly, a young lady arrived with a carafe of water, poured each of us a glass and then told us she would be right back to take our order. Five minutes later she had not returned. 10 minutes past and still no sign of her. After 15 minutes and constant turning around in our chairs hoping, to no avail, to get someone's attention, we realized that we were being naive to think that Doc's had improved. We got up and walked out with what I hope is the firm decision to never return to Doc's Bar & Grill at Shangri-La. Please don't bother to patronize me with one of your usual weak apologizes assuring me that you will turn this issue over to the Hospitality Manger. I have now read many of your reviews and see that complaints are supposedly forwarded to the Hospitality Manger. If this is the case I would suggest that to clean up the reputation of Doc's the owners may consider starting at the top by replacing the...
Read moreThe atmosphere is amazing, but the food and drinks leave a lot to be desired. I ordered an old fashioned and got some syrup concoction served to me instead. I politely said that it was too sweet and was not an old fashioned and asked for a beer instead. The original cocktail was watered down in an attempt to kill the sweetness and was returned to our table (I still didn't drink it). My wife ordered the Monterey Chicken, and I had the Tomato basil penne with chicken (I had a hamburger for lunch and didn't have many other options). The Monterey Chicken was extremely dry and had little to no flavor. My pasta tasted like it was doused in Campbell's Tomato soup from a can, and the penne was severely overdone and mushy. My chicken was also very dry and had little to no flavor. Now the good news is that the kid's menu was incredible! My kids had the Chicken tenders and the pulled pork sliders. I immediately wished I had ordered from the kid's menu when the food arrived at the table. Service was tad on the slow side but decent overall. Our server was...
Read moreService is very slow. On our 3rd day we had a server who was incredibly rude. My 6 yr old dropped his $11 single chocolate chip pancake on the floor once it was recieved. We asked the server to bring us a new one and she seemed upset and didn't respond, a few minutes later she left our table and we weren't sure if she heard our request. 5 minutes later she inconsiderately wedged herself underneath my chair while I was eating, all without explanation as to what was going on. She then, without asking , moved my son and his chair towards the window and picked up the pancake with her hands. She walked it back to the kitchen awkwardly with both hands underneath. I got up to follow her bc I was unsure about what was happening here! She holds the pancake up to her cook and the staff and starts swearing and yelling about my son accidently dropping it. This swearing (using the F- word) and outburst happened 2 more times. We got the manager, paid the bill and got the heck out of there! (Woman was older and blond, we were there on Wednesday...
