UPDATE: (The owner reached out to me, to inform me that he would be taking measures to make sure employees know the proper protocol for dealing with blood borne pathogens and proper cleaning/sanitation. He also informed me that it was the employee’s who cut herself first day. I didn’t write this review to bash them but in hopes of improvement. I don’t want this to be my last visit and would be eager to try La Fresca again after they undergo proper training. At the end of the day. I think the establishment lives up to its amazing reviews, but there is always room for improvement.) I was excited to try their pistachio items but when I walked in all the workers were surrounding a first aid kit that was placed on top of the cake display. Apparently one of the workers had cut her finger. And they were all assisting her around the work station where food was being cut and prepared. She was also able to move around freely behind the counter with blood pouring from her finger. And at one point went to rinse her hand where the dirty dishes from previous customers were being placed. Once they were done assisting her, a rag with blood on it was left on the work station where another employee was preparing to go orders. I Informed him that the rag needed to be removed and they needed to clean and sanitize the area. He acknowledged my concern, removed the rag and threw it in the back behind the counter on the floor. He then went to grab a bottle of Windex that I had seen another employee cleaning the tables with earlier. This was unsettling because Windex is not for sanitation but he proceeded to spray the counter and floor where the employee had cut herself. I also asked the employee who prepared my food to please wash his hands after I seen him help treat the girl who had cut herself and then go off to restock toilet paper in the bathroom. He did wash his hands but the entire experience was unsettling especially because I no longer trusted the judgement of the employees. I think everyone meant well but, they definitely should have some learning courses or training on blood borne pathogens and proper cleaning in food...
Read moreShowed up at 9:20 after the Chiefs game for some ice cream and were met with a locked front door and a staff who did not want to be there. Unsure why they claim to close at 9:30 if they close early. There were several of us cars out there that had people in them who did not realize they closed early.
Right when we're about to pull out, a worker comes and unlocks the door as the 2nd or 3rd couple had come up to the locked door. We walk in with everyone else and are basically (rudely) told anything with chocolate is not available as they already put everything up. OK, weird you clean up before you close, but is what it is. Unfortunately though most of the menu has chocolate on it.
Ended up leaving after watching the way the original couple was treated by the staff without getting anything. Can't speak to the quality of the food here, though the service was awful.
It sounds like your staff could care less about being open so late and it's weird you would close early on a Chiefs night game when you evidently had some post game traffic.
Maybe it was a bad night for the girl up front, but don't re-open your door because you realized you closed early just to be mad at everyone.
EDIT: Let's talk about the rebuttal below.
First off, the closing time on Sunday night is 10PM. We arrived at 9:51, saw the door was locked, and didn't leave the car till we saw it was unlocked for another person (apparently 9:55). Do not come at me telling me We arrived 20 minutes past your closing time when your Google (as of right now) clearing states you close at 10PM on Sunday.
2nd, we never interacted with staff at your restaurant as we were 2nd in line and witnessed your interaction with the first couple that came in. So your review of the situation was not even focused on the right group of people. We merely sat in line, overheard, and left after discussing among ourselves most people were wanting something with chocolate.
Next time you bring receipts, don't twist your narrative and create...
Read moreSo pleased to find this treasure at the start of summer. It will be the first of many visits. The owners are making delicious foods with obvious passion for the what their doing, connecting with the locals, taking time with every order. I watched the crepe being made & it was clear that they were made with love and pride. I’m not a chocolate fan & they were happy to accommodate (however my fiancé & I are sure to come back so he can try a chocolate crepe as they care so much that they use a quality, delicious Belgian chocolate). It’s not often I find a place with dairy free ice cream offerings, let alone ones this tasty. A variety of fruits are on my to try list—today it was mango, next time I’ll be torn between guava, cranberry, strawberry, kiwi, the list goes on. The delicious fruit dishes don’t stop with the ice cream, another tasty sounding option is The Burj with fresh fruits, cream puffs, marshmallow, & Belgian chocolate.
If you’re looking for savory options there are savory crepes, elote, and more. We came full from lunch but another time we will definitely try that along with a fresh fruit juice.
This feels like a future neighborhood staple & beloved stop to me. So glad to have such wonderful owners here making such delicious...
