Our new favorite spot for pub food offering the feel of a traditional Irish pub meets American road house. We dined here Saturday night with another couple who appreciate simple fare and immediately fell in love with the homey atmosphere. There's a great beer selection, with generous descriptions of each for the newby not sure what to try. The menu was great with plenty of options for everyone, including some great salad options for vegetarians and fish for pescatarians. Rumored to have the best burgers around, but we didn't try them this time. I had the full rack of barbecued ribs - juicy and perfectly cooked St. Louis ribs with a nice finish and pleasing sauce. I wasn't keen on the fries (coated style, rather than natural) or the cole slaw. The rest of the party were very happy with their random choices, including the Pot Roast (which OAH is known for), fish and chips, and a pulled pork sandwich platter. We had dessert waiting back home and I regretted it sinnce thehy offer both Homemade Key Lime Pie and an intriguing-soundinng oatmeal molasses bread pudding. There's also a molten chocolate lava cake for the chocoholics in your party. One more thing made this outing extraordinary: the service. I'd read mixed reviews on that area but recognized we'd truly lucked out with the best: Karen. In fact, because I had done the legwork, I stunned her partway through the meal. "You must be Karen!" After I explained how I'd put it together, the suspicion left her face. You see, she got rave reviews from a few previous reviewers and I put 2 and 2 together. So, if you go there, do opt for a brewsky, skip the fries and opt for a different side, leave room for desert, and ask for Karen. You...
Read moreThe food is incredibly overpriced and uninspired at best, almost inedible at worst. I ordered the pork loin which was a daily special, and rather than receiving a reasonably thick cutlet of pork as one might expect, I got thinly sliced, dried out, oversalted pork shreds and a side of disgusting completely mushy (also very over-salted) stuffing that seriously seemed as though it had sat in the fridge for a week before being reheated and unceremoniously smeared on my plate. The accompanying vegetable was completely unseasoned steamed broccoli. Truely one of the worst entrees I've had at any restaurant ever, no exageration. Additonally the oysters on the half shell, albeit quite inexpensive, are small, grimey, and not even separated from their shell before being served. Furthermore, they do not seem to be rinsed, because I have gotten oysters with sand and debris in them on multiple occasions. To top it all off, the manager was indignant and contentious rather than apologetic when I brought the issue to her attention (although she did begrudgingly take it off the bill).
As an aside, the bartender repeatedly evesdropped on a private conversation I was having and kept interjecting with her unsolicited opinion.
Oh, and if you plan to order an item to share (i.e. splitting a basket of wings with a friend) you will be charged $2.50 extra per person who shares that item. So split 12 wings 3 ways, and you will be charged 5 dollars more than if you eat all 12 wings yourself. Seems like a shameless excuse to charge...
Read morethey are back and they are WONDERFUL. after six long years of waiting, our favorite restaurant is back. the new owners have done a wonderful job restoring and updating it while preserving the spirit of the original. from the moment we walked in yesterday, the first day they were officially open, we felt right at home and welcomed like old friends. the menu looked great and the food was fantastic. it is going to take some time and many visits to work our way through the all the options on the new menu but the 'wild burger' was absolutely perfect and the bread pudding for dessert brought back memories of the one that the old ale house was famous for. welcome back and our most sincere thanks to kantar brothers for giving such an important part of our community a new...
