Read moreOur first experience here while coming home to the Portland suburbs from a day trip in Olympia. Needless to say, it was not positive. We had lunch next door and headed over the few steps after. I get the the counter and notice the Pup Cups are sold out. Cool, I figured I'd be able to at least get a small cone with ice cream. Nope. The shop would not accommodate -- even at $4.50 a cone.
As I understand it, they keep the "Pup Cup" cones on the counter even if they're sold out of them. The "actual" Pup Cup is one of those cones with portioned out ice cream. Those are $3.
I still remain confused what was so hard about the request. They would not do one of the Pup Cup waffle cones on the counter in a clear jar that is wildly visible to guests and put a small amount of ice cream in it for $4.50. However, they'd gladly put a large portion of ice cream in a cup for $4.50.
For someone new to the shop and new to the area... instead of gaining a customer, they lost one. I've also owned a business and it's not hard to pivot. We love road trips and would have made frequent day trips to the shop and surrounding areas if a little bit of flexibility was demonstrated.
We eventually went to Dairy Queen who managed just fine with our request and did not charge us for their...
Read moreJune 2023: I think this place is very overrated. The ice cream is very ordinary. Itâs not bad, it tastes like ice cream from the grocery isle, making it very over priced. Itâs not the level of quality I would expect per their claim, âWE ARE INDEPENDENTLY OWNED, USE THE FINEST INGREDIENTS, AND MAKE ICE CREAM FRESH EVERY DAY IN OUR KITCHEN.â Disappointing. Iâm only rating it so high due to very good staff/service, good seating, and cleanliness.
June 2024: tried again and got a root beer float. It just had a giant scoop of ice cream in it, it was not mixed at all. It came with a spoon and no straw. They gave me the leftover root beer, which was Seattle Soda Co., which tasted great. The float tasted watery (not milky) and it wasnât the root beer. My boyfriend agreed the float tasted watery. My boyfriend got the salted caramel and caramel brownie and both were bland for a âhomemade ice creamâ shop. The brownie one didnât even have brownie chunks. My boyfriend wanted it to go (I only live a block away), and they didnât ask and had to convert it. He indicated the service was mediocre. It was still clean with...
