Ferrara's Trattoria — Restaurant in Ontelaunee Township

I just got done working for the day and I was starving. Being unfamiliar with this area, I stopped to eat at the first place that I came to. This must have been my lucky day because I pulled into Ferrara’s Trattoria. The dining room is small but the pizza is PROPER. It’s some of the best I’ve ever had.

The staff is so kind and friendly and the restaurant is very clean and comfortable.

Here’s how it works:

You choose a crust type (I chose thin crust which was fantastic), a sauce type (I chose the “sweet dice roasted tomato” which was hearty, sweet and so delicious that it has ruined other sauces for me) and then you choose your toppings (I chose pepperoni, extra cheese and jalapeños).

Let me tell you—this pizza is exactly what I needed. With just one bite, I realized just how lucky I was to have stopped here! Not only was the pizza a very generous size but it had the perfect proportions of all ingredients.

The sauce has a sweet and zesty flavor with juicy chunks of tomato and a masterful blend of savory herbs. The crust was satisfying and had a buttery quality that took it completely over the top. The sauce is on top of the cheese and this helps the flavors of the toppings to properly disperse all over the pizza. It also makes each bite more pleasant in a way that’s hard to describe—a pizza with the sauce on top just feels better in the mouth. Sounds strange, I know but trust me. This is how pizza should be made! I ate 4 slices which is a lot for me. All pizzas should be this good!

I also had the garlic breadsticks which were hot, fresh and so soft. They were served with a hearty red sauce that complimented them perfectly.

After dinner, I had a wonderful watermelon Italian ice that made me feel like a kid again.

Visiting Ferrara’s made me think of summer fun and fond childhood memories. It’s funny how certain flavors and aromas can bring a person back in time. Isn't it funny how life takes you in different and unexpected places sometimes? I pulled into Ferrara's parking lot this afternoon/evening expecting to meet up with someone for a marketplace swap, and I left with one of the most delightful and interesting experiences I have ever had. Never having been here or even heard of them, I decided that I wanted to get a pizza to bring home for dinner before I left. I ended up discussing the pizza options with the owner and made a selection of the NY style. It was absolute torture driving all the way home to Breinigsville smelling the delicious die on the seat next to me. Although now cold (my fault, I should have just pulled over on 222 and went to town) it was the single best pizza I have ever had. A delicious blend of a little bit sweet and a little bit salt. the cheese was amazing, the sauce was great, and the crust was wonderfully crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.

After learning my wife was a celiac/gluten free, the owner (who I regret I didn't even ask his name) gave me something to take home for her. Turns out he is a master gluten free baker. The molasses cookie were fantastic (according to her) and I do believe this little accidental interaction has found us a new go to place for me for pizza and for my wife when they do their GF baking.

Well worth the 25+ min drive. Will 100% be back again. Thank you for making my Saturday afternoon...

Ate Pizza 4 times. 99% certain. Ate Rottollo's 101% certain. Ate pound cake 1000% certain, I hadn't tasted it in 30 years.. Looked up story, -- cried as a chef my whole life.
