Sharky's — Restaurant in Orchid Island

I’ve been going to sharky’s since I was a young guy surfing north beach. I’ve brought all my family members when they come to visit. My son grew up eating there and now my grandson. I don’t like leaving a bad review. Especially at a place I’ve eaten at for so long. I’ve NEVER had bad service OR bad food. I went there last Sunday and had the worst experience I’ve ever had there. It took 45 minutes for 2 subs that were both not what I ordered. The older lady just got my order up, yelled my name, and dropped it on the counter and walked away. No plastic silverware to spread the condiments or napkins. The whole place sat there for just as long as I did. The lady at the counter was the meanest person I’ve dealt with in a restaurant for quite a while. There were no signs saying don’t stand here, order here, but go over there. She just scowled at everyone including a small kid that I thought, if that was my grandson she’d be getting yelled at pretty quick. I know everyone is stressed with this whole virus thing, but DO NOT treat your customers that way! We are there paying for food that no offense. I could’ve made myself at home and not got talked to that way or sat there for 45 minutes and got not one, but 2 sandwiches that I didn’t ask for. I’ve never seen this lady there that I can remember or the guys making the sandwiches, but if she was in such a bad mood. She should not have taken it out on paying customers. I thought: maybe I did or said something to make her mad, but everyone else in there said the same thing. I’d like to think maybe this was a weird day or she was just overwhelmed. I dont know. I’ve never been treated that way there ever before. Or had my order messed up. Usually the food is top notch and the atmosphere and people running it are always spot on and nice. I’m not going to say I won’t go back because it’s a north beach icon, but if that lady or the two guys in back cooking the food are there. I’ll go hungry or wait to go back over the bridge.the younger girl that was there that day was friendly and bubbly, but she unfortunately did not take our orders or have people moving to distance themselves. If the store owners read these reviews. Please?! Please talk to your employees! They are NOT helping your business at all! Like I said. I’ve never seen the mean older lady that I can remember, or the two guys in the back, but an owner in charge should’ve been there to make sure this never happens again. Sorry for the bad review. Walked in for a quick bite...stood there for 5 or so minutes not knowing whether to "wait to be seated," order at the bar, or turn around and walk out the door. Since i knew of no other place i decided to "order at the bar"...The young bartender/ waitress seemed to be lost in her own personal conversations with staff and a few locals at the bar than asking if i wanted to order She knew i was standing there by the cash register but played the "Ignore the customer so i dont have to work" game by turning her back and acting like she was busy. I placed my order and sat down...i actually had to get up and ask for a cup for water. The Mature waitress said "the cups are right there" (i was surprised she didnt have a ciggarette dangling from her mouth..lol) I grabbed a plastic cup from a stack on the bar. The food was good but expensive. 6 Bucks for a piece of pie.is ridiculous and it wasnt even that great. The service is the issue at Sharkeys...the service consisted of me getting my own cup of water, a waitress setting my food on the table, and staff hanging out lost in their personsl conversations, with a touch of percieved phoniness....That had a direct reflection on my low...

It has been 11 years since we ate here and had the best Philly Cheesesteak of our lives, today was SUCH a disappointment though. The Philly was made totally different (no flavor, no bell peppers & minimal cheese) which we had to somewhat expect after time. The other entree we ordered was a bonzai burger, cooked medium, but it was far beyond well done- you could taste the char on both sides of the patty.

Overall, it was the service that really let us down though, the woman brought our to-go boxes and waived them right between our faces but the worst thing she did was to the table next to us. Two women were sitting across from each other and assumed that they were splitting their meal... three different tables turned their heads as she made the girl verbalize that the food was only for her, then she brought out the other woman's food. We will not be coming back to this...
