Me, my dad and my Uncle Daryl all went here for lunch/breakfast to start off a trip to Astoria on 2/9/2023, and it was my uncle and myself's first time being here. The food was phenomenal and I cannot recommend it enough.
The food also is generous in portion size, so if you tend to dislike price tags in the $10+ a person range, you get more than what you would anywhere else, and the experience and flavor is worth it's weight in platinum! The Baklava isn't the best we've ever had, but it is certainly enjoyable, but the Spicy Lamb & Feta Gyro was to die for in my opinion! My dad and uncle enjoy hummus, so they got a hummus plate and absolutely loved it. The pita was fantastic as well!
As for the service, it was absolutely incredible. The owners and staff are all incredibly outgoing, enthusiastic and friendly, and thus are also incredibly attentive as well.
Thankful to have experienced this place, and thankful it is here!
(No this is not Yelp 😂)
Update 2025: Tried the Gyro Fries, Falafel and Kaffa Pizza today. The fries are fantastic (really more like thick cut potato chips) which comes with the spicy sauce and feta, the Falafel is also really good, though it was my first ever time trying it (I hate anything Garbanzo Bean based typically), though my mom who normally adores it didn't care for it at all, and my brother who loves it says it isn't the best he's had by any means, so take my personal opinion with a grain of salt, and the Pizza was... Oddly underwhelming to all of us. Very forgettable to be sure.
Something I didn't note originally is that the spicy sauce is not at all spicy. I didn't even realize I had been getting a Spicy Lamb Gyro each time because of that. Genuinely I detect zero spice, and I'm about as white and Scandinavian as you can get, so that says a lot 😂 Despite this though, I cannot emphasize enough just how much I adore the lamb gyros, and the lamb itself. I could live off them alone, no exaggeration.
I need to eventually think to snag some pictures and maybe short video clips of this place at some point because I never think to do it until afterwards, as I'm enjoying the food and experience that much. Genuinely cannot recommend this place enough!
There is a public bathroom here, one mens, one womens, tucked into the back left (northwest corner) of...
Read moreI've been coming to this location for several years now, and i mention this because the place has changed. If you're mostly into American cuisine, this will taste authentic to you, and you will enjoy it and rate it five stars and so you can stop reading now. If you've ever made your own Mediterranean food, or maybe experienced authentic Middle Eastern cuisine, you will read on and agree when I say the only thing authentic about this place is the animosity of the guy that seems to live at the front counter. You know the one that rushes you through your order, rolls his eyes when you request special dietary accommodations, or decline the incredibly overpriced bakery treats (that I swear taste as fresh as a Costco multipack) and stares you down when it comes times to tip. Like a bully would or someone who loathes the fact that he's supposed to be the serving you, not the other way around, he then tells you where you're going to sit. Seriously bro WTF. Anyway, things get more interesting. This past visit has prompted me to go elsewhere. I've taken the time to grow my own parsley and herbs to make fresh falafel in the past, preparing the beans and getting everything just to the right texture. I know Falafel is a pain in the but, but it's not supposed to taste fermented. Yes, fermented. The saddest thing about it is that I always speak my mind, and not in a horrid Karen manner. I did not bother to do so this time because of the before mentioned jerk at the front counter. I left my uneaten falafel at my table and observed as my abrupt cease of eating was of no concern to any of the personnel. My guest remarked, "Why was this food so much money? It's really not that good, " and with that, we left our half eaten meals...
Read moreI love eating at Gyro Shack, but I decided to try a new place since I was on vacation…again. I found this place in the Beaverton area near my hotel that caught my attention. Well, actually my wife picked it out. So here we go… The restaurant was very clean and organized. The dining area had an appealing decor that was appropriate for the type of food served. The service was prompt, polite, and very professional…to the point where it felt like an upscale restaurant where I’d need to be wearing something other than shorts and flip flops. We placed our orders and patiently waited as we secretly gazed at other people’s plates in awe. Then the gyros arrived. HOLY MOTHER OF CHUCK E CHEESE!! My bed and lamb gyro must have weighed almost three pounds!!! Good golly!! My gyro was equivalent to about four or five gyros from the Shack!! I tried so hard to finish it because it was so good and I was so hungry. However, the gyro won and I lost. So I saved the rest for later. Wow… I could not have made that gyro at home for less either. The price was excellent for the amount of food!! We also ordered the hummus and pita bread as an appetizer. it didn’t sound nor look exciting at all, but OMG!…that was seriously the best hummus I have ever had anywhere!! And not just the hummus!…the pita bread too!! Puffed up hot and right out of the oven…delicious! My son got the chicken gyro from the kids menu and THAT ALONE would have probably filled me up. Plus it was delicious too!! I love the Gyro House and highly recommend it to one and all.
P.S. I didn’t get a chance to try their falafels but they looked AMAZING! And I jealously watched another man patiently devour them with a look of great pleasure...
