Luna Sea Fish House serves the best fish & chips I have ever had anywhere. I absolutely love fish & chips and order it almost anytime we are anywhere that is likely to be good ... and, as my family will attest, plenty of places where I should realize it's not going to be good. Food (5 of 5): all of the seafood here is exceptionally fresh and delicious. It's the Oregon Coast, so that is not surprising but it is surprising how much better Luna is relative to much more expensive restaurants along the coast. In my experience, there. Is no better halibut fish & chips anywhere along the Oregon Coast or anywhere else that I have tried. We eaten for years at the Yachats Luna Sea, which has been around for years. This Seal Rock location has been around only for a few years, but we only just stopped by this year. We stopped here as we didn't have time to make the drive down to Yachats. I'm glad we stopped as the food at this location is every bit as fresh and delicious as Yachats, but the atmosphere while rustic with plenty of character, is not as divvy. During our 11 days on the coast, counting dinners, lunches and breakfast we ate at Luna 5 times. It's that good. This trip I did try Luna's scallops (battered and fried) and chips. They were much larger than I expected and, like the halibut, exceptionally fresh. Service (5): casual, fast and just the right level of attentiveness. Atmosphere (5): this is not fine dining, but for the type of restaurant and location this place has character and charm. The ambiance here is definitely preferably to the Yachats Luna Sea. The fudge shop (also have ice cream) next door is a great option for dessert. We like this fudge shop and also the one just on the edge of Newport before the bridge. If you like peanut butter fudge, the extreme peanut butter fudge at the shop just before the bridge is not to be missed.

After being a regular at the original Yachats location, we were super excited when the one in Seal Rock was opened, we were hoping the menu and food would stay the same and it did!, The food is simple, fresh, tasty and consistent in quality, no drastic recipe changes, no weird trendy recipes, just honest food. The fish and chips is my go to, it ranges from aprox $13-$18 depending on fish you chose, ling cod, albacore tuna, king salmon or the halibut, if you are feeling like a food adventure, try the Luna Sea Combo which has breaded and deep fried halibut, albacore and king salmon, delicious. The batter is nice and light, no fish donut action here, wedge style fries, and coleslaw comes with meal. the owner is a fisherman himself and takes the quality of the fish seriously, and even catches some of it himself. the outside seating is nice, dog and kid friendly with a large grassy area, and even a badminton net set up., Live music some days, and also beer on tap, Seal Rock park is across street and there is several antique, gift shops etc adjacent to Lunas, if you are not a seafood fan, there is also burgers, vegetarian and even breakfast fare, a absolute must stop along the central coast! ***"UPDATE**"* Luna's prices have dramatically increased, and not in step with inflation, another local business ripping off tourists and locals alike, now fish and chips are between $20 to $27 depending on type of fish..battered fish can be heavy like a fish donut sometimes, and salad dressings are store bought and have weird after taste, salads usually have mushy tomatoes and cucumbers, don't even bother going to Yachats location, same prices but filthy and questionable condition of establishment

I hesitate give a 4 star on the food because it depends. Some food is amazing while other food simply should not be on the menu. We had tacos on Tuesday for taco Tuesday and they had phenomenal crab halibut tacos. Went back the next day thinking that their everyday tacos would be also decent, it surprised me that the they were very lacking. The Cajun mix of fish is… simply not very good. Which confused me, because why would you save the best tacos for a single day of the week. The every day tacos very tough and very dry. The seasoning was fine, but my goodness, it ranks among the bottom of the tacos I have ever had, yet I have eaten here many times and almost everything else is phenomenal (chowder, fish and chips, etc). But the taco… wow… that was bad (exception to the Taco Tuesday tacos). So far I have tried almost everything on their menu and everything is amazing, so I would say a 5 star review is definitely worth it.

After years of hearing how good this place was, we decided to stop and grab dinner. We thought of going to the Yachts location, but choose this one. It was around 6pm on a Tuesday. When we first walked in, we were blasted by heat, it was very warm inside. We then were greeted and was shown were to sit. The gentlemen that shown us were to sit, was also out waiter. He seemed as if we were a inconvenience for him. Plus, he had a very odd looked to him, had his sunglasses "flipped" up, which gave off a odd vibe, plus he was a inside waiter????.

My wife order a blackberry margarita, on the rocks and I order a cider beer. When out drinks came, her drink looked very thick, concentrated. She stirred it and it was in fact a slushy, thick drink. Was not good, in fact she left most of it.

They took our order and the food arrived. We didn't have to wait long, which was a nice surprise. The fish and chips were amazing!!! Thin batter, thick cuts of fish and hot fries. The FOOD lived up to the hype.

During our meal, I finished my beer, place the empty glass out to the edge of the table, to indicate that I wanted another glass. But, never was asked, even thou we were next to the kitchen. Nobody even asked, and did not even come around to see how our meal was.

BUT, most of all, it was way too hot and which shortened our visit. It was like sitting in a oven, with NO air movement. Not even a window or door opened. Two of the waitress had sweat on there forehead.

Now it was time to pay.... Which should have been a 30 seconds gave my card, reader prints out a receipt and off I go... Nope, not tonight. Their machine kept giving a "comm error". After 4 attempts, and a reboot of the system, and another 2 attempts and it working for other cards, I paid cash. I thought maybe the bank put a hold on the charge, for some odd reason, but our account did not show one attempt. It was their problem. Plus, it appeared that only one person working the restaurant knew how to run the machine.

All in all, food was amazing. Everything else was not. We should have continued down to...

Update: I went to Luna Sea for a late lunch for the first time since I wrote this review. The staff were all very kind and attentive. There was definitely a different, more positive vibe about the place, and the food was still amazing, so I have changed my rating to 5 stars!

I want to give 5 stars but I just can't and here is why: Their food is really good. Amazing! I love their fresh options, no farmed fish. I've eaten here twice now along with my parents and we have loved every bite of food. However, the service has been really awful. The first time I went, I was enquiring about the fish and chips portions for their combo platter. They offer full and half portions and I was wondering how many pieces of fish came in each portion. My server replied in exasperation "I don't know! I don't count the pieces of fish!". When we enquired about the organic coffee beans they sell, she said she didn't know and was new and hadn't been told about the coffee. She was very irritated by our questions. I've been trained by some of the best companies in customer service and I've learned that if I don't know an answer to a question, I go ask. Simple, right? Apparently not for this server. The next time I went we had a different much younger server. I was hopeful. It wasn't busy yet but our server seemed really annoyed that we were there. She took awhile to get our order, and never once refreshed our drink or checked on us during our meal. She just brought the check and barely looked at us. I try hard to be really nice and low maintenance because I know what it is like to deal with high maintenance customers. I can't help but wonder what is wrong at this restaurant? Are the owners/management really awful to work for and it is just trickling down to the servers? 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, I do plan to go back because their food is really good, but will definitely keep my expectations at zero when it comes to customer service. I don't know...maybe that is their gimmick? They are trying to emulate that restaurant in Chicago that is famous for being...
