This is my go-to place for lunch and baked goods (and pot pies). Located across the Smith Berry Farm (which is also amazing), South Store Cafe is surrounded by Oregon's beautiful agriculture and forest lands. The cafe gives you a small town feel despite the city only being about ~20 minutes away. The employees really make this place special with their kindness, knowledge, and overall positivity. It's always nice to walk in and see familiar faces.
The baked goods are consistently amazing and the pot pies are so easy to prepare for dinner (and are so delicious). The location serves amazing drinks, both alcoholic and not. They also feature a lot of goods with seasonal ingredients that are sourced locally.
My personal favorite menu item is the chicken salad sandwich because it's the best in the word. They season their greens and cut the ingredients with care to ensure that no single ingredient dominates the sandwich (usually celery ruins a chicken salad sandwich, but at South Store Cafe, it elevates it).Recommend adding pickled onions for some extra fun and deliciousness.
Anyways, I could go on forever about why I love this place. The only thing that's hard to capture in this review is the warm and amazing feeling you get when you visit the cafe. From the little elf door they placed on a tree outside, to flowers they cut from the garden and put on the tables inside -- this place is the cutest, quaintest place around....
Read moreI am long overdue to write about my family's very favorite place to eat in all of Portland, The South Store Café! If you are looking for a place that feels like you walked into a home where family are cooking a breakfast, lunch, or pastry better than you could ever dream of doing at home, look no further. I am a loyal person who wants to get to know my dentist well, the person who cuts my hair, and the people who prepare the food that my family eats well ... like friends, like family, familiar faces that welcome you the moment you walk through the door. The food is delicious, simple, made with fresh ingredients, and always consistent. We honestly have not had one bad dish! Some of our favorites are their quiches, Italian Torta, biscuits & gravy, sausage & mushroom strata, their French Breakfast Sandwich, their DELICIOUS homemade soups (Chicken + Artichoke soup is my daughter's favorite), or even their simple, but yummy house-made granola. Oh, and their coffee drinks are wonderful too! The South Store Café feels like home away from home for us. Do yourself a favor and check them out. They have a special sandwich too each week and they make the best Chimichurri sauce for one of them. You are sure to be greeted by the person I see as their mascot, Karl, so introduce yourself when you drop by. The owner is in the kitchen...
Read moreOh good gosh! You must have a meal at the South Store!! I have never had a bad meal here. For the best experience, you have to get out of bed. In the morning, the place is magical. I know that's a drag. But the experience is certainly worth it. You can come by any part of the day and take part in an excellent environment serving exceptional food. You can phone in orders and they'll have it ready for you. If you were in the Hillsboro area, this is a lovely little drive. If you were a visitor I would be tempted to go to the South store Cafe and then come back through Hillsboro into their downtown area. It is terminally cute. Across the street from the cafe is a dangerous little place that I would make a point of stopping at. You do have to waddle across the street which can be a challenge after gorging. Smith's has you-pick as well as fresh vegetables and fruit as well as gift items. This is the drill: you come in and to the left of you you will see absolutely dangerous pastries cakes pie slices and all sorts of other yummy bits. If you look to the right you will see that all the chairs and tables don't match particularly well. There is seating in the garden as well as on the side of the place This is a favorite and I make a point of going there and as a...
