You want local North Oregon Coast cultshah? You found it here, mate! I have driven by this place a jillion times on my way to other places in Netarts or Oceanside, but this time decided to meet some friends here of a nice spring Sunday afternoon, having heard the place was recently remodeled and the staff were friendly natives. Fine, spacious indoor bar with maybe 8-10 taps (I don't recall but am guessing no kombucha....wink, wink) offering a typical NW ale selection, jovial bartender and nearby stool-sitters welcoming to newcomers.....all of which lead to a spacious outdoor area replete with horseshoe pit, bbq pit, and two-level deck. On this particular Sunday, it was clear a few well-known locals were holding court in a most boisterous manner replete with "colorful," exuberant language. Folks came and went, clearly known to each other and a good time was had by all (whether they remember it later, what the hell). My group was drinking only ale, but I am guessing the cocktails here would be lethal...and on my next visit I plan to find out. (I also plan to find out how this place got its name. It's a mystery.) If you know this area and its history at all, you likely know of the demise of the beloved Anchor Tavern in nearby Oceanside a few years ago. My informed guess is that The Upstairs Bar and Grill inherited the displaced denizens of the Anchor....as well it...
Read moreWe ordered the Fish and Chips, mine with JoJo's, while my boyfriend had tator tots. The fish was okay, not great though. My boyfriend did not like the breading at all. He also did not touch his clam chowder as it had butter or oil pooling on the top.
The atmosphere here is excellent. The music was good and not too loud. You can easily hold a conversation and tell what song is playing as well as hear it clearly. There is a large smoking section out back with some seating. The women's restroom could have used a cleaning but my boyfriend said the men's room was spectacular.
There is a really cool whale skeleton out back of the bar. We got out of he car and headed toward the field to check out what looked like possible mushroom shaped trees with a bench in the distance and noticed a large whale skeleton on the ground next the to the propane tank. Seemed a little out of place but that didn't deter from how cool it was to see one of those up close.
The waitress didn't talk much but she was on point with our order. She didn't write a thing down and got everything perfectly correct. I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a cool place to chill, have a couple drinks, and chat it up with friends/family while listening...
Read moreWhat a delightful small town bar! We were visiting the Oregon coast and while we were driving around Saturday afternoon we saw the sign that Upstairs Bar & Grill served breakfast on weekends. We decided right then where we would eat breakfast the next day. The portions were generous, the staff were super friendly and accommodating, and I enjoyed the bloody mary bar. I was torn between eggs benedict with house made hollandaise, or chicken fried steak with house made gravy. Both can be amazing with a well done house made sauce, and both can be awful with a poorly done sauce. I decided on the chicken fried steak. Good decision. Their house made sausage gravy is delicious, and the chicken fried steak was crispy and tender. The only thing stopping a 5-star rating was the hash browns were underdone. Not so underdone that I sent them back, but they weren't amazing. (Although the potential was there, I suspect they were not a frozen product, but also house made.) I mentioned that they were underdone, and unbidden, the cook sent out a replacement for them, smothered in that delicious gravy. The replacements were also underdone, but the gravy was amazing. If you, like me, like to avoid the big chains, then the Upstairs Bar & Grill is a...
