I give this a two overall due to the fact we didn't stick around for the entrée and because our waitress was very sweet.
The place is woefully dark outside with nearly no lighting to identify it at night.
Inside it was a jarring mishmash of 80% southwestern decoration with 20% traditional Thai imagery which isn't a bad thing, however it seemed like it was trying to do both too much and ended up doing neither. The place smelled clean, albeit clean like disinfectant and didn't have a smell like you'd expect a half Thai restaurant to have.
It is also important to note that the website prices are off by about +2 USD, give or take. At the front of the restaurant is a laminated sign citing increased cost for supplies and wages (among other things) as the culprit of the price increase.
I ordered the jalapeno poppers to start and about 15 minutes later they arrived. Taking a bite, I found they were frozen in the center and looking closer at them I found they bore a shocking resemblance to the jalapeno poppers you can buy from the frozen section of WinCo for 2.50 USD a box. These poppers were 10 USD.
For the entrée I ordered a burger for 15.00+ USD and requested the patty cooked medium rare. I was told by our lovely waitress that the patties are all frozen and they don't cook them to order, just until they're fully done.
When I told my waitress about the poppers, she was very apologetic and took them at once, saying they'd bring me a fresh plate. After mulling it over, we decided to pass on the entrée and leave. I told my waitress who understood my decision and wished my partner and I a good night.
In summary, this place has heart and has decent bones, but it desperately needs some upgrades to remain relevant and acceptable with growing standards.
The entire exterior needs to be re-done as, in my personal opinion, it's very rough. The interior would do well with a professional consultation and, at least the appetizers and kitchen need to be more strictly managed and curated.
At this time, I cannot recommend visiting Woodsman Dining. I may have missed out on the entree's but I had a total lack of confidence once I got the appetizer and I don't walk out of a restaurant after ordering very often. Truth be told, this is the very first time I have ever done so.
Small businesses are important to the culture of our towns and cities and while it's important to support them, it's equally important to maintain a baseline acceptability where quality and atmosphere are concerned.

Read moreThis place does not look like anything special. In fact, I was quite unsure when we pulled up and went in. But I was pleasantly surprised, shocked even. The fries are potato wedges and very good. The kids menu, while small, is actually very tasty. My kids got burgers, corn dog bites and pizza rolls...they were all very happy. I opted for a peanut chicken dish which was delicious. The sauce was very real and thick, definitely not cheap sauce. One of our group got the western burger which he said was wonderful. The sauce was very good for sure and the onion rings were definitely homemade. My favorite thing though was the pot stickers. We ordered a large size to eat before our meal and I loved them so much we got two more orders to go! They are fresh and made from scratch and the dipping sauce is absolutely fabulous. They are cooked perfectly with enough crisp and softness that each bite is heavenly. They come.out piping hot, so you have to have some patience which is hard once you know how tasty they are. A great place to stop and grab a burger or a thai dish...definitely try the...
Read moreThe Woodsman is a little rustic place out in Philomath. I was recommended here through a friend and was surprised to see how many 5 stars they received.
My husband and I almost missed the place because the outside looks like a bar. Once inside it became apparent that instead of remodeling this old building the owners chose to keep the rustic look and it made the restaurant very cozy and gives it a homey feel. We were instantly comfortable.
Our waiter was amazing and knew the entire menu by heart and was even able to recommend some items to try. When our food arrived it looked heavenly, the smell could almost make you float away on happiness, and the taste made everything else I have described sound bland in comparison. The food was so delicious I left with a slight stomach ache, only because I didn't want to stop eating!
Within my and my husband's first few bites, we were already planning our next dinner night out here. If you love this kind of cuisine, I would say it is a necessity for you to visit...
