We were looking for a nice dinner place in New Hampshire before going on the 2.5hrs ride back to Boston and found Peyton Place here on TripAdvisor.
First of all, I have to say that I was reading all the terrible reviews AFTER we got there last Sunday. Many of them are very old and I can tell that Heidi has undoubtedly been working on fixing the things mentioned in there.
Things to know for a great experience there are: Don't go there if you're in a rush. The place is to savor and not for fast food You should at least be a little gourmet to be able to enjoy the very good food but possibly smaller sizes If you go for a starter, an entree, wine and dessert, it'll cost you. Prices are downtown Boston range but absolutely worth it If that scares you, you can still just take one of their outstanding flat breads and a beer and you'll be under $25 If it's summer, sit outside and take in the peace and quiet of the rural region
It took us 5min to just love Heidi (the owner)! She is great and explained the whole menu in every detail to us, which really helped us to make our decisions.
We started with 4 spring rolls (pork & shrimp), which were served with chop sticks and soy sauce. They were excellent and yes, it was a small size portion, but see my points above.
For entrees, we decided to go with the Sirloin burger and a chorizo / spinach flat bread. Now you WANT to try that flat bread! They make that in their outside stove and serve it from there right to your table. Imagine, their chorizo is made from duck! Boy it was SO good we would go back there only for that. From my other reviews you may be able to tell that I'm a burger guy. I usually try a burger first at every new place and that's what I did. I ordered it rare and boy I got it rare! Red as red can be and I'm not exaggerating when saying that this burger is amongst the top three best burgers I ever had! And they serve home made baked chips with it if you want.
We also had two Martini cocktails. They have a full bar and would mix you the drink you like in case it's not on the cocktail menu. We ordered from the menu though and LOVED our Martinis. Perfect mix, good amount of alcohol, lovely taste.
We finished our meal with a french press coffee and a wonderful 5 chocolate brownie topped with ice cream. Yummy!
Our whole experience was completed by the fact that on this evening Heidi had Jenn & Don, a lovely two person band, out on the patio to play and sing for the guests. I think they are there every now and then, so you may want to ask when in the summertime they're there. It was such a great and intimate experience having them playing and singing their light songs, that we called this whole evening the best one in a while.
Thank you Heidi and crew, we will be back and the food was outstanding! Five stars...
Read moreWe dined at Peyton Place recently & definitely did not have the best experience for a variety of reasons. One positive is that the restaurant is adorable & the views are beautiful, but everything else was pretty bad. The service was extremely slow. We waited for water. We waited for wine. We waited for appetizers for over an hour. And waited close to 2 hours for our main entrees. Out of 5 people at our table, 2 entrees came out correctly. I got the Bison burger on a gluten free bun, since I'm Celiac, as well as a few other item add ons. Someone else at the table also got a burger. Right away we noticed our burger orders had been flopped & combined. For example, she had my side dish & I had her burger toppings etc. Again, I'm Celiac, so I requested a gluten free bun. After inspecting the burger bun, I decided to ask if it was indeed gluten free. It wasn't & the server didn't seem the least bit remorseful even though the kitchen/he could have made me very sick if I would have eaten the bun. So that alone was extremely concerning that they didn't take a gluten allergy seriously. He took my burger back to the kitchen & came back 10 minutes later to tell me that they were OUT of gluten free buns & they had placed a side salad on my plate with a bun-less dry burger patty. This was frustrating because were they just hoping I would just eat the bun they gave me? Completely unacceptable. The server also did not check in to see if we needed anything during our meal & the portion sizes were extremely small for every dish our table ordered. Overall, an extremely disappointing dining experience. Do...
Read moreWe wanted to try this place out while camping in the area. It looked fancy and had a nice old rustic feel. The place had nice charm to it inside and the putside was pretty. Our waitress was very friendly and spoke highly of the food and how they pride themselves of freshness of the sea food. I ordered the asparagus soup to start. For $9 it did not come with alot of soup in the bowl and bowl just looked empty. We got Halibut plate ($32) and the filet mignon plate ($38). The filet mignon was a thin 1 inch cut, and smothered with sauce so you couldnt even taste the steak. It came with a side of 1 piece of each ; asparagus, carrot, broccoli, and 4 pieces of cut summer squash. The mashed potatoes were good but disappointed with the portion size for what you pay. The halibut plate was mediocre with pesto risotto that was over cooked and again with just a couple vegetables that were undercooked on the plate. For the price we paid for each plate, it left much...
