Smitty's Homemade Ice Cream — Restaurant in Orleans

Caveat Emptor! I will preface this review by saying the ice cream is very good. My complaint with Smitty’s has to do with their pricing and business practices. We came into Smitty’s yesterday and purchased 5 pints of ice cream at $9.50 a pint for a total of $47.50. After paying for the ice cream we noticed that their ice cream is available in prepackaged varieties, including four of the five of the flavors we had purchased. I asked the counter person how much the prepackaged ice cream cost and she told me that it is nine dollars a quart. I expressed surprise because we had just paid $9.50 for a pint of hand packed ice cream. She proceeded to tell me that the prepackaged ice cream is filled by a machine and that you actually get more ice cream in the hand packed pints. I told her I found that hard to believe and that someone should have told us that the ice cream was available for less in a prepackaged container. She responded that we asked for a pint and they gave us a pint and the sale was final. I find this to be very strange. They should post the price of the prepackaged ice cream and the quantities prominently on the price list and and reveal this information to customers who come in and request a pint...

This was the former awesome famous "Sundae School" ice cream parlor. So they have big shoes to fill.😊 Ice cream quality still very good. However the process needs to be tweaked a bit. I asked for hot fudge sundae to go and it was given to me with ice cream overflowing and the cap loosely applied. Needless to say by time I got back to my hotel my front seat in my car was wearing must of my sundae.🙃 The staff still very friendly. Ice cream is average and that's being generous. Given 2 scoops of ice cream is $6 I expected a lot more. The flavors don't really taste that rich. They're just blah. They're missing that WOW factor. Also found some of the young kids scooping it, none wearing masks, put different amounts of ice cream in based on who was scooping. This place was a letdown. Had Ben and Jerry's earlier in the week and it blew this place away. Based on the other reviews on here I don't think these people have had really good ice cream before. ...
