China Palace — Restaurant in Ottawa

The restaurant is unusually similar for a place the has supposedly switched owners. We were met at the door by a man who said nothing just pointed to a chair. The atmosphere here has not changed at all. The sad drought appearance of what once was leaves a lot to be desired. Hanging above the buffet is a sign that says any food waste will be met with and extra buffet charge. Now I'm conflicted at this because cleaning your plate is polite. However if you invited guests to you home, you wouldn't force feed them everything on their plate. Not to mention children are no so easily understood when it comes to their eating habits. So why would you do it to your paying customers? The idea is to anticipate your customer base and prep on that, you will never not throw food away in the restaurant business......... The food is exactly the same with a slight increase in quality. Not enough to warrant $10 for a lunch buffet..... It is my opinion this establishment will stay open for lack of a better option. The lack of care, food preparation and customer service will ensure that if anyone moves in and offers a slightly below average service in this food genre....... They will whip them off the map. If you're not passionate about the food, business, and customers..... Get out of that business. I will not...

Initially we were set up for disappointment. We called and found out they didnt really deliver out into our area (after some struggles with hearing them but I believe that was a issue on my end). But after waiting a bit. They called back and went ahead with checking themselves to see if they could deliver and we were pleasantly surprised to hear that they would! After ordering our order. The delivery came and the driver was very nice as well as the staff who took our order. Accents were admittedly hard to understand at times but that was offset by the fact that they took their time and didnt mind repeating when nessary. When we finally got our food (and our price). We were amazed by the sheer amount of some of it. the beef rice was just massive. As well as the buttered potatoes (which me and my mother loved). The beef sticks as well. The beef sticks were amazing as was the buttered potatoes. The beef in the beef rice was a little bland but we easily fixed that by adding a bit of soysause to it. Love the food. Yes, it's a small buffet with only one cook. I feel they do a great good of getting food out when it's busy. A little understanding and they resolve the situation.The ladies are super nice. The older lady helps customers by carrying their dishes to their tables. The lady at the register knows all the food. Whenever we need more food brought out, the younger lady gets it out super quick. Love the attention they pay to the customers. The people at the drive-thru window are so helpful and knowledgeable about all the options. The general manager even helps out people in need or broke college students. I don't know any other restaurant that goes out of the way to help out the customers like this one has supported the community.
