The food is reliably good. The pizza dough is fresh, the pizza sauce is tasty, and they have many pizza ingredient options. The appetizers are mostly fried options you'd expect at a bar. They taste okay for what they are, but overall disappointing. Would be great to see bruschetta or hummus with pita/veggies... anything with fresh ingredients that isn't fried. The few Greek options are nice, but seem like a tease--would love to see more Greek items the next time they rework their menu. After trying everything on their menu, we tend to stick to their pizza---it's their best on menu. If you want something fresh, the Greek salad is okay, but it's mostly iceberg. The servers are usually friendly, even when they're short-staffed and really busy (a common finding when eating out anymore it seems). Wait times for food are quite variable, even when it appears slow in the restaurant... reportedly due to takeout orders. We only eat in the restaurant when we have a lot of time to spare. When we can't afford a long wait, we order take out. They do a nice job of keeping food hot while awaiting pickup. Sadly, they don't currently offer delivery through storefront nor any of the delivery services now available in Ottumwa. We would definitely patronize this restaurant much more often if they offered delivery. We avoid eating in the restaurant within 90 minutes prior to closing because we've run into recurrent unpleasant issues relating to their nightly cleaning routine. A very loud vacuum is used for a long while, making it very difficult to hear your family/friends right next to you. Cleaner is sprayed/used on empty tables that is so strong you can taste it; it's nauseating and takes your appetite away. They've also not had any coffee available due to the 'coffee machine being serviced' repeatedly, at least two times, with over an hour left before closing time. I realize they want to go home ASAP, but these issues negatively impact the dining experience, so I hope they reconsider their nightly routine. FYI would never mention the above if they were one time occurrences, but that's not the case. Overall, this is a good place to eat. Like the rest of us, they're not perfect...and to be clear, the positive features definitely outweigh the...

Unfortunately, the state's pizza landscape is littered with pies that are overly salty, lack freshness, or simply miss the mark when it comes to the authentic pizza experience. The search for that perfect balance of flavorsome sauce, well-proportioned toppings, and a crust that's just right can seem like a never-ending journey. Yet, amid this landscape, Mike's Pizza and Steakhouse shines as a beacon of hope, consistently delivering pizzas that not only satisfy the palate but also capture the heart. As I stepped into the restaurant, I was immediately greeted by the tantalizing aroma of baking dough and melted cheese – a scent that was as comforting as a warm blanket on a cold winter's night. Each pizza at Mike's Pizza and Steakhouse is a symphony of flavors, harmoniously working together to create a gustatory masterpiece. The crust strikes a delicate balance between crispy and chewy, and as for the toppings – well, let's just say they're generous enough to make a decade-long feud between pineapple and non-pineapple pizza lovers look like a light disagreement. The cheese is as rich and indulgent as a billionaire on a shopping spree, and the sauce – oh, the sauce! It's a tomato-based love letter to anyone who appreciates the finer things in life. The pepperoni slice I tried was a Wall Street tycoon - bold, confident, and packing a flavorful punch. The veggie option was like a well-traveled scholar, offering a delightful array of international flavors. And let's not forget the Margarita, a minimalist marvel, proving there's beauty in simplicity. In conclusion, Mike's Pizza and steakhouse lives up to the hype. It's a place where the pizza is so good, you'll want to write sonnets about it. But be warned, once you've had a taste, you might find yourself permanently relocating to Iowa. Pizza lovers, let the...
Read moreOrdered a ribeye (medium-rare), french fries and a salad to go. I was very disappointed that the steak was cooked medium to medium-well done. The steak had amazing flavor, was very tender, with the perfect amount of fat. The salad left alot to be desired. The French fries were amazing. I hope the owner works with the cook on how to cook the steaks as he has a high quality product. As far as the salad, there were large chunks of white with some brown edges, berry little green lettuce, and the tomatoes were ready for the trash (mushy). I did eat there on a Wednesday and the resturant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, that may account for the brown lettuce edges and mushy tomatoes, but they still should not have served it. Next time I'm in the area, I will eat there, but I will find in and not on a Wednesday. These are very simple and cheap fixes, I hope they take into...
