Salt Mine Cafe — Restaurant in Owingsville

I was excited to try this place. The nice young lady working hard to serve 7 tables by herself kept a smile. She needs a tray so the drink glass are not handled by the rim or up against her shirt. My salmon meal was suppose to come with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies and a roll. I received over cooked salmon and (broccoli and asparagus) mixed veggies. I asked about the roll and mashed potatoes. Rolls were not available and the mashed potatoes came out after I was done eating. Sadly the instant (pearl as the chef called them) potatoes were not mixed well and had clumps.

The dining room is crowded and the drink glasses are kept in-between the dining tables, ice is in another room and customers pour their drinks from a bottle if ordering soda. The flow is very awkward.

The kitchen is not set up for resturant style.

Sadly I don't see a long future with this...

Great little spot. Good food! I had the open faced turkey, and a piece of chocolate cake. Everything was perfect. And the sweet tea is made just right in my opinion. There is a small dining area in the front and what seems to be a little venue with tables in the back. They have music here every other Saturday. The Chef is really nice. I would have given a perfect rating but the Chef only has one person helping him and waiting tables. If this place were to all of a sudden get really busy they’d be in the weeds quick. My family are here Thursday morning. I wish I had better things to say but unfortunately, I do not. First, the sausage was cold. Ice cold. The gravy was extremely runny and greasy and lacked flavor. The biscuits were hard and not great to taste. The cheese on top the egg was barely melted. I peaked my head inside the kitchen and it looks like a regular kitchen in a home, no commercial items whatsoever.
