We were excited to try Guffey’s pizza since we had heard good things and found several menu items we wanted to order. I tried calling to order and to find out what was on the “supreme” pizza because the only description I found available online is that it has provel cheese. I called three times, each time getting the answering machine, so I decided to give up on a description of the “supreme” and just place my order online for carry out. When I got to the step for confirming and placing my order I received an error message with the only explanation reading “too long.” I tried hitting the place order button again and received the same error message. I was unsure what “too long” meant, so I tried calling a fourth time and this time a young woman answered the phone. From the tone of her voice upon answering I sensed frustration, and when I said I’d like to place an order for carry out her only response was, “It’s gonna be like 45 minutes.” I have no problem waiting for food, this time was no exception and since I was calling an hour before their posted closing time I expected they would have no problem filling an order. I told her I was fine with waiting but when she replied with, “Ok, what do you want,” it became apparent that the frustration I perceived was directed at me for being persistent in trying to place my order, both online and over the phone. Once I understood that she was not interested in obtaining our business I told her never mind. She did proceed to thank me before I hung up, and not surprisingly, with a much more cheerful tone, I suppose because the order was averted. Whatever the reason for such poor customer service, I’m disappointed that this was our first experience with this establishment, and based on this, I don’t expect we will be attempting any future orders at Guffey’s Pizza. Hopefully this isn’t the norm and other potential customers receive more courteous attitudes and better service from employees. Regardless, we wish Guffey’s...
Read moreShort version: A better version of St Louis style pizza than Imo's at a much better price. Fried pickles and the quality of the pepperoni were the highlights for me. Love to support family owned. Restaurant employees looking at me like an alien are the reason for a 4 instead of 5.
Wanted to try the local spot and I pass Guffeys everyday on the way to and from work. Ordered online, which was a breeze. Sadly the website doesn't say that the pizza is St. Louis style, so that was a surprise. But hey, maybe I missed it somewhere, so that's on me. We got a large half and half, garlic cheese bread, smoked and fried wings, fried pickles, and a cannoli. What can I say. I'm a big boi. The fried pickles were perfectly cooked, chip style instead of the inferior spears. The wings I got with sauce on the side to see if I could taste the smokiness, sadly, I couldn't. But they were perfectly crispy and far superior to anything you'd get from a chain place. The garlic cheese bread is made with a provel mozz blend that isn't my preferred, but still tasted a-okay. The pizza like I said is a St. Louis style, so a thin crispy crust, mozz provel blend, and toppings. I got my side without provel because my northern blood refuses to accept it as real cheese, and I gotta say it was the best St. Louis style pizza I've had since moving here. Have yet to eat the cannoli, but I'm going to bet it tastes pretty solid from the looks.
Now the only reason I gave Guffey's a 4 instead of a 5 is because when I pulled up the the restaurant, the two teenagers working there looked at me as if I was an alien. Yeah, I'm a tall big guy with green hair, but they looked at me like I was a tweaker proclaiming I was God. The whole interaction with the two was awkward as hell, but hey. Being a teenager is hard.
Oh yeah, no face masks on in the place, but I live out here and honestly don't expect it anymore. Thank God I'm...
Read moreI can’t say enough good things about Guffey’s Pizza, but I’m going to put a bunch of things here! First, their pizzas, which are definitely the main attraction—we have another St. Louis style pizza chain (starts with an I ends with an O) in town, but Guffey’s far outshines it. First, the ingredients—we often order a sausage and pepperoni and a supreme—both pizzas are loaded with top quality ingredients (and we love the Italian seasoning…just the right amount), yet somehow, with all the ingredients, the thin crust remains crisp! You have the option of Provel (which on a St. Louis style pizza, yes, please) or mozzarella.
We’ve also ordered sandwiches, salads, and an assortment of appetizers. Here’s the key (and another reason we love Guffey’s)—their delivery is super fast. The pizza is always hot and so are the fried apps—crispy and hot!
The cook on the pizza is always consistent. That may seem like a small thing, but I can’t count the number of times (before we found Guffey’s) that that other pizza place overcooked the pizza—although some people like it extra done, we don’t—it completely changes the pizza.
We also love that it’s locally owned. The owners close up shop when the weather gets bad (protecting...
