I went to the grand opening, and my first thought was that the cafe was so cute!! There are about 11 tables so there is a lot of space for people to dine in. About 4 of the seats have a comfy sofa to relax on. I sat there while waiting for my food, and it was one of the comfiest seats I’ve sat on!
The cafe was named after a corgi named Chappie, and there’s a picture of him/her on the wall when you order. The logo has Chappie in a cup, and it’s so adorable! As a dog lover, I had to visit this place as soon as I saw the logo 😂
Moving on to the food, I ordered a take out of a strawberry banana milkshake, traditional house Benedict, and tres leches waffles.
I’ve never had a tres leches waffle before, and the worker explained that it’s a waffle with caramel, chocolate, and condensed milk drizzle. The waffle sounds extremely sweet, but it wasn’t as sweet as thought it would be so the sweetness was perfect! The sweetness fits with Asian taste, which is pretty rare because most waffles are too sweet for us. I think I will ask for some fruits on top next time since I think it will go well with fruits!
The traditional house Benedict was so delicious! I have not eaten an egg Benedict for a while since covid, so I was really delighted to know that a cafe that opened up nearby has egg Benedict for take out. I’m really picky with my egg Benedicts since it’s my favorite food, and I was very satisfied with the one here! The traditional house Benedict is a traditional egg Benedict with English muffin, Canadian bacon, poached egg, and sauce. You get 2 egg Benedicts when you order, with a side of hashed potatoes. The eggs were cooked just right and the sauce for the Benedict was so delicious. The hashed potatoes were very delicious too!
Finally, the workers put my strawberry banana milkshake in 3 small cups since I went there a bit too early and they haven’t received their milkshake cups yet. No problem though, because the small cups are so adorable! It’s my first time seeing a cup with a lifting and closing lid to drink, and the design on the cup is very cute! Drinking one sip from my milkshake, the first thing I could tell is that they use real fruits for this. I dislike artificial flavors of banana or strawberry, so I was really delighted to taste the flavor of fresh fruits 😊 The milkshake is very very delicious!
Overall, this cafe is an amazing cafe that serves delicious food! I recommend stopping by and ordering since all of my orders today satisfied my tastes. Will definitely...
Read moreFirst of all, this is a really lovely cafe. You can tell they are putting the effort into making it as comfortable an experience as possible for their customers. The staff was courteous and attentive, and the level of service was exceptional. The decor was cute, and the dining room and bathrooms are clean and well maintained.
The top notch presentation of the space extended to the food as well. I ordered the traditional crêpes, which are filled with a dense vanilla cream. They were delicious. One minor hiccup: one of the three crêpes were a bit burned on the inside—it was still pretty good. Upon notifying the staff, they immediately replaced the crêpe with apology. I really appreciate this caliber of customer service, especially at the highly reasonable prices they charge.
We also ordered the "Boba tea" on the menu. Based on the name of the item, I expected to get a cup of liquid tea with tapioca pearls in it. If you are ordering this item, you should be aware that it is not tea but a sort of smoothie (pictures attached). Hopefully they can clarify this on the menu in the future because it was unexpected. The drink was still good nevertheless, but the tapioca pearls were were a bit too firm. They did not achieve the soft, chewy quality of boba that the Taiwanese would call "Q." Granted, that level of Q perfection is difficult to achieve. This may have been a one-off issue because it sounded like they were out of pearls and had to make fresh ones on short notice.
Another thing: by law, single occupancy bathrooms in places of public accomodation (such as restaurants) are required to be gender neutral in Illinois (410 ILCS 35/25). Their facility is not yet compliant with this standard.
Overall, we had a good time at Chappie's and will be returning in the future. I am glad to see this new business in regency plaza is off to a...
