Carne Tampiqueña is one of my usual plates at most Mexican restaurants. You expect the cut to be soft and well flavored. At this establishment, I can't say this dish was any good at all. I arrived and asked for a Tampiqueña dinner a termino medio tripas taco and an horchata. They asked green or red enchilada and I went with a red enchilada that comes with the dinner plate. I ate the tripa taco first. Added some lime and green sauce, and the taco was great! Set the bar high and expectations for the rest of the meal. I then went to try the Tampiqueña. The meat looked real chewy and over worked, but still went ahead and took a bite. It had a very chewy and stringy feel to the meat. Not to mention it was forced woth char and spices that didn't help the cuase. It felt as if it wasn't even the right cut of meat and it was a cheaper quality and not that of a Tampiqueña. I was very disappointed. The rest of the plate was mediocre with the enchilada just doing it's job as a filler while beans and rice had good flavor but we're not complimented well by the poor quality of the main part , the meat. The orchard was very watery and missing some of the flavors you can get from the cinnamon and Leche condensada, but wasn't too bad. Over all , if it had been just the taco it would have received a 8.5/10 but the Tampiqueña ,wich was the reason for stopping there in the first place, was a 2/10. That's the reason this...
Read moreI’ve been a consistent takeout patron of Angels for the past several years and have always found the food excellent and service good. Yesterday however I had the opposite experience on a takeout order. I had written my family’s order on a piece of paper so as not to forget and when I entered the restaurant the order taker took it upon herself to use that note to write down the order. She relayed the order in Spanish to the 2 cooks and I waited for the order. All seemed fine until I arrived home and found items missing. I called the restaurant to inquire and was immediately met with a confrontational attitude from the original order taker. I tried to explain to her what was wrong with the order to which she said I would have to return to the restaurant with the entire order seeming to imply I was attempting to scam the business out of a bag of chips and Salsa. In actuality they were missing and somehow while deciphering my note turned a Steak Fajita dinner and a grilled shrimp dinner into 1 steak/shrimp fajita dinner were the problem. Needless to say I was not going to drive the entire order back unless the entire order was redone so as to not subject my family to a 1 hour old takeout order. I received a terrible attitude and decided to take the hit and my wife did without her shrimp dinner. I won’t...
Read moreI always restrained myself from writing a bad review for this restaurant because the owner is so nice. But today was the last straw. I've had bad experiences with the food before, Under cooked meat, soggy tortillas, tasteless meat, the salsas have no flavor to them. But today was just horrible. We were in the mood for some popusas and this is the only place in the area that has popusas. I ordered green chilaquiles with over medium eggs. When I got the chilakiles my egg was not cooked right. I called the waitress over and explained that my eggs were over hard. She got very defensive and said that they only do scrambled eggs and over hard eggs no special requests. I asked her to please send them back and make them correctly. She came back with the SAME eggs but cut into small pieces!! After that she just kept telling me that she cant read my mind on how I like my eggs. She just wouldnt drop it. She went to the extend to go tell the cook to come and explain to me about the eggs!! By the time I finally got to eat my food it was the regular disappointment. The sauce was tasteless the rice was hard. The sour cream was watered down. Save yourself some time and drive a little further to get your food. Cause this place is definitely not worth it. But the cook and the owners are...
