I have known for YEARS that I wanted to get married at Makray. I fell in love with the building and the grounds before I even got engaged. The building is absolutely gorgeous with its crawling ivy, immaculate landscapes, scenic lookouts, and overall charm. The surrounding golf course area is also nothing short of pristine, as you would expect of this caliber golf course. We went to officially look at this venue a WEEK after we got engaged, a full year before our wedding, just to make sure that we would get our desired date. From the start, the whole team at Makray was extraordinary. Laurie is the sweetest person and you can tell she truly loves her job and loves helping couples bring their dreams and visions to life. Not only did we have our ceremony and reception at Makray, but also our rehearsal dinner and hosted next day brunch for our guests as well. The other main reason we chose Makray? THE FOOD. Chef John is one of the most passionate people that I have ever met. You can tell how much he loves doing what he does not only through talking with him for 5 minutes, but in every dish he makes. I have alway been told that people remember only a handful of things about weddings, but the biggest one is the food. And ALL of our guests raved about the food. We even made sure that we had a special plate made for us to ensure we got some of the amazing appetizers before they were gone! The lengths that everyone went to to accommodate our wishes were boundless. Leeza was amazing in helping us plan our menu and timeline and thought of things that I hadn’t even considered. Her, Stacy, and Laurie truly made the whole thing run so smoothly attending to every detail and answering every question and making sure that we were happy! Our wedding day was perfection and I truly mean that. We couldn’t have picked a better venue or better people to work with. Thank you for bringing my fairytale dream...
Read moreGreat course, lots of fun. The staff that works there is not knowledgeable on golf course operations.
I called and asked if we could tee off before 7a in June when the sun comes up at 545a. We were told no. Which is very surprising in that all other golf courses let you do that, especially when the sun rises early. I asked why and was told because we would be in the grounds keepers way. So I booked a 7a tee time and got there at 620a. When I got there, a group was on the first tee teeing off. There was actually a handful of groups that teed off before 7a. Also I saw very minimal grounds crew on the course when I got there at 620a, they werent doing much out there. So I got lied to by their pro shop staff.
Second my friend went to play there a few days before me. Had a 1145a tee time. When he got there, there was an outing teeing off with tons of people. So he booked a tee time and they didnt honor it. When he arrived they told him it wouldnt be much longer to tee off. He waited for 1 hour until 1245p and there was still people teeing off. So he just left. So the pro shop double booked tee times as well as after the double booking they were unable to communicate to him on when he could tee off. I've never seen this happen.
Third I found they dont let carts out after 3p in the middle of summer. It doesnt get dark until 830-9p in the summer. Golf takes 4 hours. Do the math. Makes zero sense on their decision to not let carts out after 3p.
Im blown away at their incompetence and neglect for the customer. Especially for such a nice course.
So dont trust the staff there. Question what they tell you because in my brief period of going to this course, I've seen 3 mishaps that could have been easily avoided if the staff used basic...
Read moreI always drive passed Makray Memorial Golf Club and think that would be an amazing place to get married. That is just what my husband and I did. From the beginning Laurie and Leeza were extremely helpful. They were like my helpers in planning my wedding with them. They had very helpful suggestions and thoughts they wanted me to keep in mind. These helped me plan out my wedding to be my dream wedding. Any time I emailed one of them, they always got back to me within 24 hours. They constantly had me at ease.
And then COVID hit...when most vendors spiraled out of control, Laurie and Leeza remained professional and extremely helpful. In turn, this helped me to keep a level head. They kept track of government orders and numbers and how this would effect our wedding. We got married in August when there was a maximum of 50 guests allowed. They helped me navigate through this tough and trying time. We figured out how to make the room look amazing still with only a fraction of the people. They maintained safe and comfortable standards within their establishment for COVID. I can't even begin to explain how easy they made the planning even when this pandemic hit. Even though it wasn't the original plan, Makray Mermorial Golf Club was still the perfect and dream wedding! Thanks Laurie and Leeza (and everyone else who helped navigate through this!)
Would 100% suggest you can't go wrong with Makray for your wedding. Beautiful grounds to take pictures and the price was very reasonable. Included all food/wedding cake/drinks. I just had to find my other vendors. We also did our rehearsal dinner with them. It was absolutely delicious and fun! Makray has worked with many vendors before, so they really know what...
