I'm on the road a lot and there are not very many good food choices close to where I sleep at night. I come in then leave exactly 10 hours and 15 minutes after I arrive. Been doing this for years eating whatever I could scrounge from vending machines and if I am lucky a walmart. All that ended after I had medical issues due to my food choices. So I had to make changes in my eating habits. And exercise habits. Now I eat healthy, Maybe one day I will find a vegan or vegetarian that can make food delicious, I however have never found them and no, I am not looking hard either. About every 2 weeks I go off my diet and look for a place within 2 miles of where am sleeping then walk there and eat a nice meal. This is the 2nd time I have done this. The Crazy Donkey grill in Palestine, Arkansas was my walk to choice. This is where I met Steve and Jessica they were friendly and offered offered variety of good choices for me, I chose the street tacos. It came with 4 street tacos of your choice. I chose shrimp, chorizo, steak and chicken. While it was being made they brought me red salsa and some sturdy corn tortilla chips. Remember this is Arkansas not Arizona, Texas, New Mexico or even California with a history of hot foods being served. The red sauce had a sweet flavor that I did not really like so I asked if they had a hotter sauce and a few seconds later they came out with a green sauce I do not typically order green sauce because I love the spicy reds flavor more. The green sauce was amazing perfectly hot that didn't burn out the flavor of the food. The tortilla chips were good but I think it would have been better with a bean dip. Then I started on my meal putting a spoon full of green salsa on all 4 tacos and squeezes of lime on as well. The Carne asada was tender and juicy with the heat of the salsa waking me up. The chicken was delicious and the flavors were pleasant but I think I didn't take to it because I have been eating so much chicken in my healthy foods. The chorizo was OK but I can't remember eating it I think it was drowned out by the salsa but there was plenty of egg, which was cooked perfect. Finally there is the shrimp taco it was cooked well and had a good flavor. The beans and rice were really good. I ate them so fast I didn't think to dip a chip in the mix. Mexican restaurants outside of those 4 states mentioned earlier is hit or miss mostly miss usually. This restaurant is a hit in my opinion if you can't go home to a Mexican wife or mother that knows how to cook, like my wife, and you happen to be near Palestine, Arkansas I definitely recommend this The Crazy Donkey Mexican grill, coincidentally all things I have called my wife... this week, we have weird senses of humor, please forgive me. NOTE: I also bought 2 burritos to go I will edit review when...
Read moreStopped here on our road trip to grab a bite to eat after being on the road for 8 hours coming from Houston. It's a cute place with an interesting theme but there were some downsides. First off our food didn't come out all at once and when it did one of our orders was incorrect and got sent back. Second, I had orderd the pastor street tacos and my father orderd the fajita taco salad, both of the meats were extremely bland and had no flavor what so ever. Third, the beans oh my lord the refried beans were terrible I don't know if the individual making them mixed up the salt and the sugar but they were SWEET and were not worth eating another bite. We asked if the beans had come out of a can or if they were homemade, of course the ig owner/manager said they were made in house. He had even tried them and couldn't see where we were coming from, I understand everyone's taste buds are different but when you have 4 people telling you the same thing maybe take it into consideration and get another opinion other than your own. The chips n salsa and the rice were the only good things about eating here. Will not be coming back on future trips and i hope they fix their beans, learn how to take constructive criticism and learn what...
Read moreKeep driving - Food is mediocre at best, enchiladas tasted like they had Velveeta in them and some queso cheese sauce poured on top, rice and beans were just eh, chips were okay, the salsa was so weak it shouldn't even be called salsa. The pico de gallo was soggy and appeared like it had been around a while. And the girl at the front counter... Rude as hell, little snot nosed brat. For us, growing up in California and being raised on real Mexican food (for over 60 years of my life) food thats made authentically, she thought she would tell me there's no such thing as a carne asada burrito, maybe not at your hole in the wall - but listen up sweetheart, leave Arkansas for a weekend and go visit California and sample some REAL Mexican food. This place was a joke. The food was barely tolerable but I guess if you're desperate for a night out and you live in Arkansas in the middle of nowhere, this might be better than a jab in the eye with a sharp stick. Otherwise, if you're on the highway looking for a place to stop for dinner, keep driving. We stopped here based off of reviews, and they must have friends and family review them because there's just no way this can have a...
