Been there a few times. BEC's are good and tasty. A little smaller and dense compared to Long Island, NY. Pastries, cakes, cookies etc.. are all good and tasty. Prices are definitely high for cannolis, sfogliatelle and few other things. Long Island bakeries charge from $3.95 to $4.50 for a large chocolate cannoli compared to theirs at $6.50. Their lemon cake, death by chocolate, lobster tails are very good. They often add new items to their menu. Chocolate Cigars and Boston Cream donuts would be great if they can add those. I don't like how they keep some sfogliatelle on the counter with no cover while people are standing near them placing orders. That is not sanitary. Also, being open to bugs, dust. To the owners. Please don't keep any pastries, cookies etc.. open on the counter where people are breathing on them. Salads are dry. Their heros are delicious!!! Big and filling. We love them!! Prices are a little high for them but we will keep getting their heros because they are a good size and tasty. Chicken cutlets are good. We tried some of their dinner meals. Tasty. Pasta was overcooked. Place is clean. They have an area with some tables and chairs to eat there. They also sell pastas, sauce, olives and specialties that are imported. Along with some games, maps etc.. Nice place but need some changes. Including more employees on the weekend, like an order taker and separate people to make the orders so you don't have to wait too long for food. Also, someone came in with their large dog that I dont think was a service dog and went to sit at a table. I don't like that. Nothing was said from the employees to...
Read moreI’ve tried this place twice, with very mixed experiences. The first time, the pastries were absolutely incredible—10/10. Naturally, I decided to come back for Christmas, but unfortunately, it was a letdown.
The owner wasn’t there, which is understandable, but the staff seemed unprepared to assist. I asked if they had pignoli cookies, and the workers at the register said no. However, after looking myself, I found them. I also inquired about other cookies, specifically if they had Florentines. They told me no, but what they called “lace cookies” were, in fact, Florentines. When I asked more questions, like what a St. Joseph’s pastry was, their response was incorrect—they described it as a French cruller pastry when it’s actually a choux pastry stuffed with custard. It’s clear the staff lacked knowledge of the products they were selling, often deferring with, “The owner would know.”
I spent $50 and had to rely on Google to make my selections, which was frustrating. Worse, when I got home, the pastries were disappointing. I had previously enjoyed their cannolis, but this batch tasted overwhelmingly of cinnamon—like Big Red chewing gum. The filling seemed like a mistake, and it was so bad that I ended up throwing away four cannolis and a lobster tail stuffed with the same cream.
The inconsistency and lack of staff training are disappointing, especially considering how wonderful my first experience was. Unfortunately, I probably won’t...
Read morei was pretty pumped to finally try this place out - everyone’s saying nothing but great things. i’m from jersey, and when i saw a “nj bagel” on the menu (pork roll, egg and cheese aka the holy trinity) i was STOKED.
so, fast forward to me getting home, bagel in hand, ready to dig in…and what do i find? canadian bacon. or ham. or some other pork-roll impostor. i meeeean…come on. this is jersey 101, and i’m out here with a bagel that’s making me question my life choices. swapping in canadian bacon (or whatever foreign sliced ham product this was) for pork roll is… not it. at all. if you’re gonna call it a pork roll egg and cheese, it better be a pork roll egg and cheese.
and at nearly $8? yeah, this was a miss. maybe they were out of pork roll and figured ham was close enough? i get it, stuff happens. but if this is how they’re making the “nj bagel” on the reg, we’ve got a problem…please don’t ever let another atrocity like this EVER leave your deli. fingers crossed this was a one-off situation, I’ll update my review in a couple weeks when I give them another try and I hope they can redeem themselves...
