5 of us went to New Era for their AYCE Crab legs, shrimp and chicken on 8/30/19. We were looking forward to this visit for weeks and we were unfortunately disappointed. The food itself was quite tasty. The service was horrendous...
It pretty much started with the initial drink order. Our server was clearly overwhelmed. 20 minutes later our drinks arrived. Then we placed our food order. 3 crab leg dinners and 2 AYCE specials. After we told her what we wanted she incorrectly repeated the order. It took us 3 times of going through this to get it right. About 15 minutes later, when we're thinking we're getting our food, she comes out and confirms our order cuz she didn't know if she put it in right. As we again repeat our order, she has half an attitude.
Finally, our food arrived and she starts sitting food down with the wrong people. The crab leg dinners come on a large metal tray, the AYCE specials come on 2 ceramic plates. We've seen other diners as we're waiting and we have caught on to her error. She is not receptive to our input. Everyone eventually gets the right food. We ask for another round of drinks, specifically indicating a water instead of a daiquiri this round. She brings another daiquiri.
Then we ask for another round of crab legs and steamed shrimp. This was at 5:24. Over the course of the next 30 minutes our server is gone. No plates of food, no drinks, no how is everything. Just gone. Well, not entirely. She's dealing with her tables on the other end of the restaurant. Leaving us and the table beside us unattended.
After 40 minutes total waiting, a member of our party talks to the hostess. She comes over, takes down our food and drink order and says she'll get us taken care of. Within minutes she brings us drinks and food.
At 6:11, our original server comes back with crabs. This is 47 minutes after she last interacted with us and the hostess had already brought 2 rounds of crabs. We tell the original server that we're full from the hostess taking care of us and she lets out a big exasperated sigh and rolls her eyes at us. We tell her the only thing we need at this point is the check.
Again, the food was great. I'm not knocking that in this 2 star review (or it would be 1 star). The service stank. She said it was her 3rd day working there and the AYCE thing for crab legs was a big special. These things were taken into consideration and she had a buffer on our expectations because of it. But either the management team dropped the ball in having her work that event with her experience level or she's really not cut out for that line of work. There was no communication with us. Our drinks stayed empty. Her tip reflected the service she provided. We heard the table beside us complaining as well.
The service turned an event we were looking forward to enjoying together into a frustrating affair. We will likely return and we know which server we don't want.
To New Era I'd recommend being more strategic with the scheduling for an event they've been...
Read moreWent for open mic night and had a really good time listening to local talent.
When we pulled up, I was a little confused by the way it looked; their signage and aesthetic is.. unique? I don't dislike it, but from a marketing perspective, the place could easily be passed and you'd never know what's inside. I hear this place has a bit of a reputation from past business, so I hope it's not true that locals would automatically assume it's not worth checking out.
Great atmosphere and service; prices were somewhere between your local dive bar and a trendy brewpub (a Yeungling draft I think was $2.50?)
I got girl dinner (an appetizer) - soft pretzels with crab dip. Crab dip was decent, but I personally prefer something a little less salty with pretzels. The soft pretzels were just some basic microwaved pretzels, but the portion was generous (6 pretzel sticks and a small dish of crab dip) for the $10 it cost.
The whole reason we were here was so my boyfriend could order the same thing he got the first time he went, which was the pljeskavica. I did not try the actual sandwich, but the bread part was really good.
Overall I'd say this place is worth a try if you're looking for a casual...
Read moreVery slow service and subpar drinks. Arrived at 6 and waited for the rest of our table. Ordered dinner at 6:30/6:45 and didn’t get our food until 8. She informed us after 30-40 minutes of waiting that the kitchen is backed up a bit. Waited another 30-40 minutes. We all ordered handheld sandwiches/burgers and when we got our food it was decent. 2 of us got a fruit margarita with no salt on the rim, sugar instead. They were the nastiest margaritas ever and had salt not only on the rim but inside of the drink. It was so syrupy and thick. I felt like I was drinking a pedialyte drink. First time I ever wasted a drink in my life but I couldn’t stomach it. Switched to an orange crush and wasn’t much better. Anything we needed we waited for. Drinks, check, to pay, we waited at least 10-15 minutes or longer for each. The new patio area is very nice but I will not be back with all of the waiting we had to do and the nasty drinks. Feel bad that I recommended this place to my boss because she had a horrible experience the evening after with her family. The server was very sweet but we waited...
