1st time - Last time... The positives were a moderately cute atmosphere and the meat was cooked well. Outside of that, the rest was a disaster. My girlfriend had been there a few times, years ago and said it was great. Unfortunately times have drastically changed. It seemed as though it was a restaurant run by High School students without a clue on how to run a successful business. When we first got there, we were standing in a hallway where the host station was. However there was no host. We waited for about 5 minutes and then I walked into the bar area to see if I could find someone to seat us. The bartender said she would find him and send him out. This kid who looked to be about 15 finally came to the host station and looked up our reservation. We were brought to our table, which was fine. We waited around for someone to take our drink order, but that took some time. Then another kid came and asked what kind of water we wanted. He came back a little while later and just dropped a bottle off, without pouring it or saying anything. Then the waitress finally came over and took our drink order. I had a Dirty Martini with top shelf vodka and blue cheese olives and my girlfriend had a rum punch. Her drink was so bad, we sent it back and ordered a glass of wine. Even though we sent the drink back, they still charged us for it. My drink was served in an old style champagne glass, no shaker and incredibly watered down. The blue cheese olives looked as though they were stuffed by a monkey. Instead of bread for the table, they gave us what they called potato pancakes. They should have been called over fried rock chips. Absolutely disgusting... Unfortunately my coconut shrimp app wasn't any better. Way over cooked and disgusting. The meats in our main course was decent, but the price was ridiculous. This may have been a good place to go in the past, but it's terrible now. I'm not sure what happened to this place, but you are going to go out of business if you don't fix the many issues. I'm embarrassed for you. Such a disappointment from start to finish. UPDATE * 1/6/2023 After speaking with Eric (aka. the owner/manager of the Frogtown Chophouse) he convinced me that it was just an off night and to give them another try. Well, last night, I did just that and honestly couldn't have been happier that I did. It was a complete turn around from the last time we went. Everything was perfect. As soon as we opened the door, we were greeted by the host and taken directly to our table, which happened to be next to a cozy fireplace. The atmosphere was everything we could have hoped for. Our waitress was prompt, informative, friendly and professional. Our drink orders were perfect and delivered in a timely manor. Gone were the rock hard potato pancakes, replaced by a delicious crostini plate. We're off to a really great start. We noted that the manager made the rounds to every table, confirming everything was up to par for every patron. It really showed that he cared and would do whatever it took to make the experience a positive one. To be honest, by the vibe in the room, he succeeded with flying colors. Our appetizers were okay, not earth shattering, but still tasty. The entrees on the other hand, were an absolute homerun. I had the filet mignon and my girlfriend had ossobuco. They both were perfectly cook, absolutely delicious and nicely presented. My only comment/suggestion, would be to serve the ossobuco with a small spoon to get at the marrow. We were so full that we didn't do dessert, but I have no doubt, it would have been fabulous, if we had... I spoke with Eric after the meal and conveyed my only negative comment, that hadn't been addressed since my last visit, which was that the acoustics in the room, made it very loud. He assured me that they are looking into sound absorption panels, which will make a huge difference. In closing, I couldn't be happier with the turn around. Clearly he took my prior review to heart. ...
Read moreI can’t figure out why people rate this place high because it was the most unpleasant dining experience I had in the Poconos. And the most unpleasant in a Christmas Eve dinner ever. In all honesty, I felt robbed. I could’ve gotten better food for the same price (or even lower) at other nearby restaurants. Honestly, the worst $150 I spent over my week stay in the Poconos.
My wife and I made a reservation for their Christmas buffet priced at $75/pp and we regret having dinner at this place. For the same price, we could’ve gone to Desaki and eat really good food instead we had to settle for the following terrible buffet - by te way ALL the food was cold: Charcuterie board made up mostly of grapes and visibly cheap cheese. Shredded Brussel sprouts seasoned with what appeared to be a full container of salt. You could barely taste them because they were so salty. And not flavorful obviously. COLD crab-stuffed shrimp, and the shrimp was hard - they overcooked it. Jalapeño whipped sweet potatoes that were cold as well. This and the mediterranean pasta were the only items that tasted OK… not great. The prime rib they were serving was just awful. They call themselves a steakhouse but they served the most underwhelming, tasteless piece of steak that I’ve ever eaten at a steakhouse - the steak from the $30 buffet at Mt. Airy casino was so much better than this one. Lastly, the desserts table… it seems they forgot to tell their chef that they needed to make desserts and went to the nearest supermarket to buy a bunch of cheap desserts. It’s the type of dessert that you eat at a small-time convention with thousands of people. The only dessert they seem to have cooked was an ugly-looking peanut butter cake that looked and tasted like a bunch pure peanut butter that they put in the fridge overnight and then served it. The other food is not even worth talking about. You can cook better food at home.
But that’s not all! We had to call the server to come to our table to order 2 glasses of wine because we sat for 10 minutes and were not served by anyone. Thank goodness a family arrived after us, sat next to us, and were served before us - that was the only way we could get the server’s attention.
On top of that, they had the nerve to add a “large group” 20% gratuity to our bill when the service and the food were so terrible. We were 2 people.
It is sad that a place this bad gets so many good reviews that mislead people. Want good food? Don’t come here. Go anywhere else around there, but not the Frogtown Chophouse. I wish I had taken pictures of the food to complete the horror story but we were...
Read morePLEASE READ I am a person that does not leave reviews. My experience at this place could not just be swept under the rug. Fellow diners must know what they are in store for. We were in town for a sporting event. I googled nice restaurants and made a reservation here. I read some of the reviews (good and bad) and figured we would try it. We arrived a tad early for our 8 PM reservation. We were seated right away in the bar as we requested. Our nice young lady server came right over and we placed our drink order. Drinks came right out and then we placed our meal order. We ordered salads, steak entrees and a couple of sides. The salads flew out to us and they were good (816 PM). We both had the caesar salad. We anticipated the entrees being out very soon. Our server came by a few times and checked on us and told us our meals were coming. We were getting antsy around 9 PM. From where we were seated we could see tray after tray going into the dining room. When I asked our server if everything was ok she told us they had a couple of large parties and that the kitchen was a tad backed up. It didn't look that busy to me. I understood and said no problem at all. We continued seeing tray after tray head into the dining room. We saw people at the bar order items and those items come right out in minutes. Granted they were desserts and appetizers, they were still out quick. At this point it's 915 PM. I told my kid that at 930 PM we were leaving if our dinners were not served. At 926 PM our dinners were served. My kid's steak was hot and glistening and looked right off the grill. My steak looked dry and was lukewarm to the touch. They had clearly been cooked at two different times. I am guessing that our order got screwed up and mine was made long before (then sat forever) the rush job on my kids. My kid's baked potato looked great compared to mine that was again cold and looked as if it might have been dropped. Our side of asparagus was also lukewarm. It must have been prepared with my steak and not my kids. I refused my meal due to it looking inedible. It was that bad. They took it off the bill and I still tipped our server as if it was there. It wasn't her fault our experience was horrible. I figured a manager or owner or someone would come over and offer an apology for things not being up to what a consumer would expect when they are paying for a nice meal. No one did. Please use caution when...
