I’d been eyeing Kitchen’s Corner BBQ for a few months now—line always wrapped and buzzing, which usually means something good is cookin’. Finally made it out there on a Sunday around 11:30am (pro tip: that might just be the golden window—everyone was still in church).
Now let me say this: be careful where you park. We accidentally pulled up in front of what looked like a regular curb, only to find out it was someone’s gated driveway. Homeowner came out heated and tried to fight us—even with me literally holding my newborn. Whole scene was a mess. Not the restaurant’s fault, just… heads up. The area is a little seedy, but let’s be real, that usually means the food’s gonna hit.
We ordered: • 1/2 lb brisket platter ($25) – tender, flavorful, but honestly portion size was a little small. • Dino rib ($35) – absolutely massive. Shared with my daughter and still had leftovers. A win. • Large candied yams ($8) – I’d been craving these since before I gave birth and they did not disappoint. Gave my Nana’s kitchen energy. Still not convinced we got a true “large,” though—it was the same size as the small sides. • Mac and cheese + collard greens w/ turkey – sides are $5 for a small, $8 for a large. The mac was creamy, cheesy, and comforting—definitely had me wishing I got the large. The collard greens had a nice little kick and were perfectly seasoned. I really appreciated that they were made with turkey instead of pork—flavorful without the heaviness.
Each meal came with two sides and 2 dinner rolls—honestly solid value.
Also, bonus magic: There’s a sweet auntie set up near the line selling desserts—and yes, she offers samples while you wait. Bless her. Banana pudding and pound cake vibes all day.
BUT—let’s be real. It’s not quite worth the hype for what you go through. • The line can be hours long • There’s little to no shade while you wait • No seating if you need it • It’s kind of a trek depending on where you’re coming from, tucked in a part of town that’s a little rough around the edges— • And the portion sizes (especially the brisket and sides) felt underwhelming considering the time, energy, and energy it takes to get your hands on them.
Overall, it’s very good BBQ—one of the better ones in SoCal—but I wouldn’t camp out again for it. Glad I tried it, Just go early, park smart, say yes to the dessert auntie, and come hungry. Hunt for the...
Read moreI saw a review that @latryguy recently did from a food truck in Compton, California. So I was recently in Pico Rivera so I decided to drive to Compton and have some barbecue!!!
With the traffic it took me approximately 40 minutes to get there and with the line another 15 minutes to place the order. now I will say the gentleman taking the order was super kind and personable. He took his time explaining the different options and when I told him about the review I had saw on social media he even threw in a complementary side. While I was waiting, he offered to have me try a cornbread muffin that was not included with my meal and I will say it was very good.
Onto the food ….when the meal was $90 and there was only a Dino rib, three pork ribs, two pieces of chicken, one hotlink, four slices of brisket along with two sides I do think that’s a little pricey!!! oh I forgot about the rolls.
The sides that we selected were mac & cheese and the greens. The side that was given to me, complementary was the candid yams.. now I will say this…. the mac & cheese was some...
Read moreMy wife and I came on Friday, May 10th and the food was great for the most part! I order the oxtail plate and had oxtail for the first time and my goodness it delicious! I took a bite and the rest of the meat just fell off. It seasoned perfectly and cooked even better. The oxtail was $35 but it only came with 3 pieces which was kind of a letdown for the price but they are very meaty so I guess it evened out. The sides are amazing! We had baked beans, Mac and cheese, and collard greens. All were 8/10! My wife ordered a smoked turkey breast and brisket plate. The smoked turkey was to die for! Now the brisket was disappointing. I saw pictures of other plates and the brisket looked great but ours honestly looked horrendous. The taste was there but it was like 60% fat and did not look appealing at all. We will def go back and order brisket again, maybe it was just unlucky. I don’t understand how they looked at our brisket and decided that it was good enough to put on a $25-$30 plate though. Besides that it was great! Would have been 5 stars. Can’t...
