Poor service at El Jeroshito. Waitress disappeared after bringing initial drinks and taking food order. We waited for what seemed to be an eternity for the waitress to offer some chips and salsa which is pretty standard. We finally flagged down a bus boy to get that taken care of. By the time the chips and salsa came out the food was coming out with it. The salsa was the quality of tomato’s out of a can blended up with a few hot pepper flakes in it and a little onion maybe. When the salsa is bad, that is a pretty good indication of their food quality in my experience at Mexican Restaurants. The fajita nachos were par for local Mexican Restaurants. The refried beans straight out of the can were thick enough where they were a bit hard to swallow and were tasteless. The steak street tacos were also par at best where a small 2 oz cup’s of sauce of multiple types were offered. I tried the salsa verde which tastes like straight salt. Due to the harshness of the salsa verde I asked for a small cup of a different sauce to try. I saw the waitress go to her register to ring something up which I thought was odd for a small size cup to drizzle on the tacos. The waitress came back out a short time later with a bowl of jalapeño ranch sauce. Once the bill came out we were presented a bill for the sauce. This was like being charged for an extra shake of ketchup at a sit down restaurant selling burgers. I told the waitress that I didn’t order a bowl of sauce and didn’t think it was right to charge me for it. She went to speak to the manager who then came over speaking a little better English. I explained to him what occurred thinking he may chuckle due to how his waitress handled the request for a little sauce for the taco. He didn’t appear real happy and went back to the register to make an adjustment. A new bill was then brought back charging .99 cents for it. It’s only $.99, but if the dude needs $.99 that bad at the expense of losing potential future customers go right ahead and insist to bill it. This made me realize this will just be another one of those restaurants passing through the old Rosener’s Restaurant Building.
On a positive note, the bathrooms were clean as well as the restaurant.
My goodness ! I moved from Stl to this area last year, and haven't been able to find a decent place to eat UNTIL NOW! First off, the inside is BEAUTIFUL. The ambiance was great, probably even better at night with all the lights on. The service was AMAZING.They were all so fast and tentative to us. Extremely polite as well! The owner even came out and talked with us and thanked us for coming, kudos to them 👏 The sweet tea was so fresh and tasted amazing! Chips were fresh and crisp, and the salsa was zippy! The queso was also very good! Our meals were perfect. I had rice with chicken and queso and grilled jalapenos. OH MY GOODNESS! That rice had hints of garlic and other seasonings that really made the dish even better. Best rice I've had. Even the cake was beautiful and smelled so good ! I highly recommend 👌 The outside of the building is deceiving! The inside is so colorful and has so many beautifully designed tiles all over. It was just a great...
Read moreWe were traveling from St. Louis to visit family around lunch, so they asked us to pick up takeout from a new Mexican restaurant that happened to be on the way. And wow, am I glad they made the request for El Jarochito! Two things stood out: We had 8 different meals and appetizers for 8 people covering a varied portion of the menu, and everything was excellent. In fact, we were still talking about the food on the drive back to St Louis, later that day. Second, the restaurant was very inexpensive as our bill was only $100.
I can personally vouch for the pork enchiladas rancheras (cheese enchiladas topped with pork) with rice and beans and pork tamales. In fact, their tamales are the closest I have found to friends that share tamales from their handed down for generations Mexican...
