I found this restaurant as I was traveling south via I-57. I encourage everyone to exit at Paxton and enjoy breakfast or lunch. My first hint that this would be a great experience was the parking lot was full. Upon entering I could see this was a family restaurant with casual decor and a comfortable feeling. I was immediatedly welcomed by a friendly young man who somehow found me a seat right away and took my drink order. Daily specials are posted on a whiteboard as you enter, and prices looked reasonable. My waitress arrived shortly thereafter with my drink order. I ordered a special of the day, the roast turkey and cream of chicken rice soup. I received the soup right away and was impressed with the taste and texture. It had a creamy base that was not too salty, ample pieces of white chicken meat, and the rice was not mushy. Perfect timing on my servers part, or luck? Just as I finished the soup, my entree arrived. The turkey was real breast meat, not pressed pieces, sliced thick with gravy over the meat and mashed. The gravy was a perfect consistency and also not too salty, the mashed was firm, not runny. The manager stopped by during my meal, and my waitress checked in on me several times. The staff is very friendly and treat you like family. I noticed they all worked hard as a team. I will make it a point to stop here my the next time I'm in the...
Read moreOur Google GPS took us on a ten minute tour of Paxton (which has a nostalgic downtown) before taking us to the Paxton Family Restaurant which is actually just a few seconds west of the I-57 exit! The building is non- descript from the outside, but the atmosphere inside is small-town warm and friendly. Bree, our server, was quick to offer Specials and advice. I ordered the Italian Beef and fries, because in my experience, it tells a lot about a restaurant. It was very good, REAL beef roast, not some paper-thin slices of processed meat. The beef was tasty, piled high, covered with cheese, and tender. It was one of the best I've had! It was served with au-jus and thick fries. I was also given a big slice of a three layer chocolate cake because it was my birthday! We make the trip to Champaign often and will make the Paxton Family Restaurant a frequent stop! It was everything you hope to find in a rural,...
Read moreThis is a great place for breakfast/lunch. The Google map directions are quite bizarre! As you get off the I-57 southbound exit, you can see the restaurant across the road a few hundred feet away; a few seconds by car. Google maps send you in the opposite direction around a large square block to come back from the opposite direction. Don't do that; it's crazy. There is a second confusing issue: the sign in front of the restaurant says "Paxton Inn," because they share a common driveway entrance. I have attached a photo of the restaurant. The food and service are great. Many town regulars eat there and we're greeted by name. We felt equally welcome. Paxton Family Restaurant is a great place to stop for a meal where you will be treated, as their name states,...
