Visited this establishment today at 1:30 p.m. and ordered a bagel with cream cheese which was absolutely the best bagel I've ever had. My intention was to have a different bagel but we all know bagels of choice are gone after the morning, so my choice was a plain bagel which I didn't expect to be over the top. The quality of this bagel was that of a soft 6:00 a.m. bagel delicious, not of a sitting around afternoon bagel. I've been told my whole life that I like very good over the top food and can even be honest about my own cooking if it's not done well, which of course happens to us all at times. I would definitely give this business five stars! When I saw it wasn't given five stars I wondered why and started to read some reviews. I decided to post this review to share with others my personal experience in the restraunt business. People are coming in to get food because they're hungry and it's quality food and may not realize the operation of a small Mom and Pop business. I have been in the restaurant industry for a very large part of my life and my hope is to help some understand the business from my experience. I read some reviews about three employees. Please realize the cafe here is a small Mom and Pop cafe and can only hold so many employees behind the counter so they don't get in each other's way. Read something about 12 sandwiches taking 20 minutes to complete which is a little over 1 minute and 30 seconds a sandwich. Please realize other things are needing to be done at this time with other employees. I think we need to understand this is a small business, Mom and Pop establishment, not a chain establishment. Chain establishments prepare alot of their food ahead of time (example: bacon it's all pre-baked a day ahead of time and warmed up). They sell in large quanities so they buy food cheeper and can afford the waste that comes with preparing food ahead of time. The biggest comment in the reviews was about wait time, but a large amount of the reviews agreed that the food here is very good. Please realize that good food brings a crowd and extends wait times,( example: very popular ice cream place in Cream Ridge NJ people wait 20 minutes in line for soft and hard scooped ice cream because it's worth the wait). In the restaurant industry we have what is called peak times which for this Cafe would include breakfast, lunch and weekends (with Mother's Day being the busiest day of the entire year). In the reviews the owner recommends calling ahead and placing orders for to go during these busy times. Which in all fairness can still take a while if you order during a busy time when others choose to order the same time you ordered as well. Also remember owner reminds us all food is cooked fresh and not ahead of time. We all know how long it can take us to make fresh eggs, bacon (longer wait if you want it well done) and toast at home just for ourselves. During busy times walk-ins may still wait as to go orders are coming in and are customers as well and their orders cannot just be put off forever. I appreciate this business caring about the quality of their food and I would hope that if we choose to dine with them we can give them Grace so they can prepare the quality of food they wish to present to the public. Also it's not an excuse in no way, but every once in awhile a condiment or something else might be missing or wrong, especially when it's busy as nothing is perfect. Thank you for those that chose to read this as my hope is to help someone understand the things that go into the operations of a small Mom and Pop business. Thank you so much to the two employees I met today who were very kind and prepared me a quality meal of my choosing. I wish you all the success in your business and thank you for understanding your patrons as well, as many may not realize everything you go through, to cook quality meals as they are just hungry and come cause you prepare good quality food. I look forward to my next visit. Have a...
Read moreI’ve been seeing posts from K&B in my local Facebook group so the other day I was decided to try it! I was so excited to see the hype since this place looks strongly loved by the community.
I ordered a breakfast sandwich, jalapeño poppers, a half dozen bagels, and a bubble tea drink. I ordered online and picked-up in person. They were relatively busy for a Sunday but my first bad impression was one of the employees being nasty to her coworker directly in front of me. It almost took me back because the restaurant is somewhat open floor plan and it was hard to miss hearing them fight.
I go and get my bagels and half of the flavors I ordered were out. I was completely fine with this since it’s pretty common for a weekend until I got home just to find out my $11 worth of six (6) bagels were so stale they were like a rock :| I paid so much where I’m trying to justify eating them but I can’t even cut it in half with a knife. Definitely sticking to local bagel joints based off this alone.
My breakfast sandwich was on a bagel that wasn’t AS stale but still pretty up there in age. It wasn’t bad but had little taste that some seasoning could perfect. It hit the spot considering I was starving.
The jalapeño poppers were fantastic and I say this as someone who always has to get them when they’re available. One of the best poppers I’ve had and I appreciated that you can choose what kind of cheese you want. I was bummed because you only get five 2” x 1.5” poppers for $8…. woof!
Bubble tea was fine—just wish they had different bubbles that weren’t popping. I thought I got normal brown sugar but it turned out to be popping bubbles (didn’t specify on the online site they were popping). Tasted as good as any other boba place so that makes me happy!
I think it’s a cute place with a lot of charm but I don’t think I’d come back again based on my first impressions. They are absolutely up-charging for their food despite the quality being poor. I wish them the...
Read moreWaited just under an hour for 3 bagel sandwiches, 2 regular bagels and an iced coffee. I was incredibly patient, every time I asked to check on the order I was stared at like I was crazy for even asking and eventually met with "i'll go check on it".
They never gave me an update. At no point did I raise my voice, or express outward anger to the workers. My problem was people were walking in and ordering food and getting their's before me. (A customer even made a comment that he got his order, sat down, and ate it - while I was still standing there waiting. Albeit his order was simple.)
I finally got my food after 40 minutes, but no iced coffee. After waiting an additional 10 minutes for the drink, I finally went to ask one of the adults. The woman was frustrated and stated "we are busy, a little kindness goes a long way." Turned her back and walked away from me after instructing the girls to get me the iced coffee.
I think being patient for 50 minutes before grabbing an adult and leaving a tip for the girls is being kind. But you walked away from me and never let me reply. You were happy to take my money.
The food is extremely overpriced, the newer staff is rude and they got my wife's order wrong again. The only reason to eat here is they are the only Bagel place within a 25 minute drive for most of the town, and they clearly take...
