Went twice in 2 days. We will never go there again. Was treated as if I was attempting to get my families whole eaten meal for free and was lying. Yesterday for first time we stopped here for breakfast before going to Pgh zoo. It was delicious. Their syrup was/is amazing, it’s like homemade, caramelized and delicious. We liked the place so much we came for lunch today. We decided to get my 1 yr old son chocolate milk like the day before. He LOVES choc milk. During whole meal he was saying no to it. After the not that great lunch, I’m pretty sure the cod is frozen then reheated and I was given uncle bens rice pilaf, I was going to finish my sons choc milk. I took one swig and wow CHEMICALS! The meal was completely eaten we were ready to go, but I decided why let good choc milk go to waste... stupid because now I’ve got tears because I realize my son just drank about 2 oz of this stuff in which as I’m writing this I still taste in my mouth. The manager ( a kind looking 50-55ish woman) came over telling me she tried it and had her daughter try it and it tastes fine. That is not true! Nothing about what my son got was fine. It tasted like a bottle of chemicals was poured in it. And now I am questioning this woman and her daughters tastebuds as it should have been like ‘wow that milk has gone off’ or ‘I don’t know what it is in it but that is bad’. But no, instead I get to be insulted that my son, my husband and I do not know what marburgers choc milk tastes like, of which I have a half drank gallon in the fridge now. She tried it a couple times in front of me and just straight faced lied to me or she truly doesn’t notice and that is even more scary. Now I’m thinking my worst nightmare: it’s something in the cup and what kind of chemicals are in the cup? So I had her get me one of the cups and I smelled it and seemed fine then I had her pour me some choc milk in the cup. And before I even get the milk to my mouth I can smell the chemical smell. And I taste it and relieved I knew it was the milk, still though worried my son will be sick tonight, but I don’t think marburgers uses lots of chemicals and that maybe this is what their sour choc milk is like? Idk we never have it long enough for it to spoil. Their choc milk was dated the 4th so it wasn’t like they served us out of date milk.
Why they have lost my family’s business?
I now know that they will go to great lengths to make it appear that the customer is wrong or overreacting. I don’t trust their ability to tell if food is spoiled or not. As clearly the manager and daughter cannot tell. I did not expect a free meal, I just wanted to know what my son ingested. Yet they took off the chocolate milk and expected me to be like ‘oh cool thanks’. No. That was like a slap in the face, idk what the milk cost but it wasn’t worth taking it off. Our meal was 35.89 after the milk being deducted. I gave a 7.11 tip on that ( roughly 20% tip) total was 43. In hindsight, had they given a significant discount on our meal after all this, I would have at least tried them again ( but only for breakfast as that seems to be where they shine).
We would have given them repeat business 2-3x a week had they just been less dismissive . It’s impossible to rationalize why we should eat there knowing that we could be fed soured, rotten, foul food and be told it’s ok and only have the one item deducted from the bill IF it happened again. We go out to eat because we enjoy good fresh food and don’t want to have to question the foods safety. I appreciate restaurants whose managers can tell if a food item has spoiled or is not right. Unfortunately, Reichholds does not hold up to the litmus test of these simple...
Read moreFilthy, pigsty dust 2 inches thick on all their pictures and knickknacks. Litter and trash all over the bathroom floor. I have a serious health condition. Had to take my coffee in with a sugar substitute that doesn’t kill me because all of theirs are cancerous. Had to be told by the manager that I wasn’t welcome to bring my coffee in there even though I bought a four dollar orange juice there and $30 worth of breakfast for me and my friend she didn’t say it nicely or in a professional manner whatsoever even after I told her it was for health reasons and she still was rude and said that I shouldn’t have brought it in there. It’s like taking oil to get an oil change done well I have taken Oil in to get an oil change done lady (that’s using the term loosely )and they were perfectly fine with it. Also I’ve have had my own a business for 25 years. Plus grew up in a business, my father had for 55 years there’s a certain way you talk to people or you’re gonna lose a lot of business. Especially , if you talk to other people like you did me today because I will not be back and neither will my friend and or anybody I tell about your place. I’ll let them know how rude you were to me! I have family that lives in that area and I’ll make sure they don’t come in there as well. Learn how to be professional and have decorum and understand people have health issues and when someone spends 30+ dollars at your establishment be grateful and let them bring a two dollar coffee when they have a medical reasons for doing so. Especially when they bought a drink and didn’t just come in there expecting to sit in your seat taking up space of paying customers. I was a paying customer a good paying customer even left, your lousy waitress a good tip. And you don’t put the fee of a credit/debit card back onto your customers you get a credit card company that eats that because you’re a good customer to them as well. You’re lacking seriously in knowledge of great...
Read moreOur family enjoys looking for and trying smaller, independent restaurants when we're out and about rather than relying on chains. Sometimes, this approach leads us to charming, small restaurants. Sometimes, it leaves us longing for the predictability and consistency of a chain. Unfortunately, our experience at Reichhold's Cafe was the second scenario, not the first.
We stoped here after a gym meet at the nearby Community College of Butler County.
The first ding on this experience was that they refused to serve us lunch. It was 12:20 PM on a Sunday afternoon when we sat down, but they would only sell us breakfast. (To be fair, I've promised my daughters that I would include a qualifier that this is a family owned restaurant that was very crowded on a Sunday and they were open until 2:00 PM only. I'm not exactly sure how that excuses them from serving lunch at 12:30 PM, but my family seemed to think that was an important fact.) So the bacon-cheeseburger and fries that I was really jonesing for when we pulled into the parking lot had to get replaced by breakfast. Even though I'd already eaten breakfast hours before.
Second, it took FOREVER for the food to come. Again, I can access empathy because the kitchen was crowded. But it took a whole hour for our food to come. It was truly trying on our patience.
Finally, it was expensive. I couldn't believe the check amount when it came. For eggs. That we waited 60 minutes to get.
I love mom-and-pop restaurants and we support them because we would rather them do well than another casual dining chain. But if I knew the experience we were going to get when we walked into Reichhold's Cafe, I would have taken our family to an Eat 'n' Park in a heartbeat. I'm sad to say that I wouldn't go back to this restaurant and I would recommend it to a friend only if they insisted on supporting an independent...
