Lakes Tavern — Restaurant in Pequot Lakes

I came up from the Cities to celebrate my dad's birthday and he chose this spot. I loved the menu and could tell it was thoughtfully put together.

We arrived a bit after 5 on a Friday and it wasn't too busy yet. We chose to be sat in the bar area and we were greeted warmly by both the host and our friendly server.

We ordered the crab cakes and Scotch eggs for appetizers. Both were tasty and came out hot and I was impressed that the garnish was treated as part of the plate and actually seasoned; what a professional touch. The only criticism I have is on the doneness of the egg. Scotch eggs should have a slightly yolky/soft center. We still ate every bite.

For entrees, we ordered the Ribeye, Thai green curry, and Walleye fingers. We were SO happy with everything. The attention to flavor and detail in the preparation of each dish was not missed. The curry was one of the best I've had and I worked with an Indian chef in Chicago. It was quite thick and very satisfying and the heat level was on point.

NOT regular “bar food” and it’s delicious! Lots of FRESH VEGGIES!! Fresh quality Thai salad, amazingly delicious and fresh green coconut curry with stick jasmine rice, great Ahi options, and even Scotch eggs!! Don’t get my husband going on the wings-he and my brother ordered another plate of the Thai wings they were so good. There ARE regular bar food options too and look very well done (we didn’t have any). They were SO kind to our dog on the patio and so helpful with menu, table, shade, bright water for our pooch without being asked, and food came quickly given the fresh quality. Nice upgrade to what was there before. Same layout, just different look. I see reviews complaining about the pricing but they are pretty similar to another place not too far away (which I also frequent), it’s newer and let’s be honest…food prices are not going down only up. My grocery bill is crazy high!

Our food arrived in a timely manner although we didn’t come during a dinner rush. They are new so give them some time to work out the kinks. We ordered the spinach & artichoke dip which was pretty good. Also had chicken sandwiches, ordered them grilled not crispy. Both were okay. Chicken may have been cooked better but I’ll give them some time to fix that.
