Well, well, well, if it isn't the best nachos on the course! That's right, I'm talking about Lou's Bar & Grill at Papago Golf Club in central Phoenix. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Honcho, what do you know about nachos?" Let me tell you, I may not know much about golf, but I know a thing or two about good nachos. Let's start with presentation. I give these nachos a solid four chips out of five. They may not have been arranged in a perfect pyramid, but they had plenty of toppings piled high on top of the chips. It's like a bunker shot, you gotta go big or go home. Now, the chips themselves were good quality, but they were store-bought, so I can only give them three chips out of five. But hey, sometimes you gotta play the lie as it lies. And speaking of lies, the toppings were a little too heavy on top of the chips, with no layering, so I can only give the toppings distribution three chips out of five. But hey, that's just like a bad lie on the fairway, you gotta work with what you've got. But don't get me wrong, the ingredient quality was top notch, and the chicken had decent seasoning without being overly salted. I give the chicken a solid four chips out of five. Overall, I have to say that these are the best nachos on the course, four! So if you're looking for a snack between holes, head on over to Lou's Bar & Grill at Papago Golf Club and try out their traditional style nachos. Trust me, it's like sinking a...
Read moreInside the Restaurant was full so we sat outside on the patio. Passing other tables and the kitchen on the way to be seated I was excited to eat because the food looked delicious. Our food arrived and was just as I expected, beautifully plated. Unfortunately the taste did NOT match. We were a family of 4 and all of our meals were sub-par. I ordered a Ceasar salad with blackened salmon. There was zero flavor..I mean nothing. The Salmon " looked" like it had flavor and was blackened on the outside but was not. The salmon was so overcooked and dry, the salad had dressing but no flavor. I had to grab salt and pepper from another table so I could try and eat it. My teenage son ordered chicken strips. The chicken breading was so hard and burnt he couldn't eat it. It actually tasted burnt. My daughter ordered a hamburger, that was decent. My husband ordered a sandwich, forced himself to eat it because he was starving. Overall, extremely disappointed with the food. We were on a very tight schedule and couldn't wait for any other food or orders to come out so we just...
Read moreThe location itself is amazing and beautiful, especially for a non-local who doesn't get to experience these Arizona views (we happened to be there at sunset) every day. For some, that may he worth the visit. Outdoor seating was generous and charmingly heated with fire pits and gas lamps. Where this place fell down on our visit was the food. Drink selections looked good but they ran out of some ingredient in the seasonal old fashioned on the menu so I had to settle. The queso was thin. The cubano panini was dry; I think the chef may have forgotten to put mustard on it, and because it was a panini, ths pickles were pressed all the way flat and had a weird crunch you aren't looking for in a sandwich pickle. For me: glad I went for the views and company, but...
