Although this place has been a go-to for me; today’s experience was questionable. As several other reviews have mentioned, I have noticed a lack of hospitality when certain staff are present. However, I was unpleasantly surprised to hear a political conversation coming from the staff this morning. I approached the counter multiple times to order and receive my drink. The girls continued to speak about ICE. One girl, in particular, repeated “ICE ICE ICE” with no additional context as I approached my drink. Almost as an attempt to trigger or belittle me. I am a Latina woman, and I can proudly say that I respect everyone’s opinions and beliefs, but this interaction was deeply unsettling. I can’t say I’m aware of their specific policies on political conversation in the workspace, but anyone with decency and common sense steers away from controversial dialect while on the clock… There was intentionality behind those words, and I hope that this behavior is corrected. Pittsboro is a beautiful community, I would hope Aromatic Roaster’s would be as welcoming as the rest of the wonderful small...
Read moreOrdered and paid for a large pourover coffee. Sat and watched a guy bring out the beans, the carafe, the v60, the scale....then watched him grind the beans...and start the long process of a large pourover. 10 minutes later after the process is over with, I nearly open my mouth to say "leave a little room for cream"...the guy (the owner, John) takes the coffee back to the back room and starts drinking it. Then another guy comes up, gets the same equipment and starts the process over again, and 20 minutes later, THIS coffee is now mine. The owner legit made me wait 20 minutes so he could have his coffee first. Absolutely mind boggling. Rest of the staff is cool tho!
Just had to edit this after the owner's tonedeaf response. 1. I know who John is. 2. I didn't leave the review the day this happened. 3. Telling me I should have ordered ahead if I was "in a hurry" doesn't change the fact I waited 20 minutes so an employee could make their...
Read moreTheir coffee has always been good and the vibes of the cafe are intimate and unassuming. However, ever since their old staff turned over the 3rd quarter of last year, the hospitality left a lot to be desired; half the staff they have on payroll right now don't have the people skills the hospitality job demands (cheerful greetings, goodbyes, conversation etiquette). The baristas are also caught like deer in headlights if you ask more than basic questions about the coffee, which is a shame when enthusiasts want to connect with the company and how they approach coffee on a deeper level. I and others have noted basic milk drinks also taking 15-20 minutes during slow periods.
I never had a problem with their coffee, always enjoyed it. But the difference between the passion of their old staff and the indifference of the new one affects the quality of service in all other areas more...
