I've passed by Small Town Pastry pretty much every day on the way to work and back. To my credit, their store front faces away from Middle Road, so I haven't really had much to notice (not that I'm super awake or alert to or from work typically anyways). In a continuing quest to try more local cafes and pastry, I stopped by after work tonight to have a quick tea. The space is small, but definitely didn't feel as such. The lighting is not harsh, owing likely to a combination of the sparse accent lights and black ceiling area. The space is new and well kept up and it shows. Wood flooring of the style that snaps together adorns the floors, the upper plenum lacks a drop ceiling with the structural metal exposed throughout, and the decor along the walls displays either pastry or sculpture thereof. It's cohesive and comfortable - I like it. As I browsed the pastry cases, I fixated on the macarons when I saw them. There were only a few flavors on offer, but I only needed two and decided to go with a salted caramel and a lemon raspberry. For a beverage, I inquired about the hot tea available, to which the proprietor shared their selection of Rishi teas. I really like this! I haven't had too much Rishi tea yet, but what I have had, I've enjoyed. I proceeded to sit at a table and have my tea and cookies. No surprise, the macarons were as good as they looked! Both were a rich version of the flavors described and definitely worth the $3 apiece price tag. The tea was a perfect compliment to the cookies - Rishi's Jasmine Green is as good as the other greens I've had of theirs. I can easily envision returning here after work many times in the future. I saw the olive oil cakes and cheesecakes in the case and can easily envision stopping by after work for one or both. Thanks for being a great new space in Bettendorf!

I went in on a Monday morning to try their croissant rolls. Was greeted by a man with ear buds in both ears. I asked about the croissant rolls as there were none in the case. He said they only do those Wed-Sat. So I purchased a few other items. A cannoli, pistachio macaron, and black forest cake, and 2 sugar cookies. The macaron was good. Full of flavor. I can't say the cannoli was my favorite thing. However I've never had a cannoli so I can't say it was theirs specifically I didn't like. The cookies are going to someone else so I can't say I've tried those either. The black forest cake had potiential but had one cherry in-between the layers. I was definitely let down in the black forest cake. I asked the guy behind the counter a question and he was very abrupt because he had his ear buds in and didn't hear me. Definitely was not the best customer service I've ever had but it was a Monday morning. I just suggest removing your earbuds. If you're going to try this place be prepared to spend a good chunk of change. The cookies were marked $5 I was charged $7 each. I didn't notice this until I was gone.

I had a deeply disappointing experience with this bakery. I placed a last-minute order for two 1/4 sheet cakes and was upfront about the timing. The owner couldn't accommodate my original flavor request but suggested two alternative flavors (because they were already baking them), which I accepted. I ended up paying $60 per 1/4 sheet cake, which, for the size and quality, was outrageous. The cakes were only 1.5 inches tall —barely more than a slab of dry, burnt-tasting cake. Both cakes were so overbaked, they were nearly inedible. When I brought this up with the owner (I sent pics and honest feedback), the response I got was, "I'll pass your opinion on to the baker"—no apology, no offer to make it right, just a dismissive brush-off. For the price, I expected so much more. Poor quality and even worse customer service. I will not be returning and would advise others to stay away.

If I could give Small Town Pastry a ZERO STAR review I would. I don’t know if there is anything more disappointing that talking about a cake and receiving something completely different. My sister had a baby shower in which we prepaid for a cake and macaroons. She gave one of her invitations for color matching. We were supposed to get a cake with macaroons and flowers on it. What we received was a joke...not only did the colors not match the invitations at all but the quality was TERRIBLE. The flowers were half one color half another (not in a good way) because the pastry bag was never switched out. All of the flowers were smooshed ( they looked like messy blobs) and honestly looked like a five year old made them. My poor mother stayed up all night re-doing the the cake. Oh and the Macaroons... the macaroons were not able to be used because they were Barney Pink and Purple... We thought there was a mistake and that the wrong macaroons had been sent so we called the store the next day and were greeted with an offensive tone by the manager. He never apologized and instead wanted us to drop the cookies back off so that they could do what with them? Re-sell them? We asked for money back and he told us that he gave us a deal. When we mentioned we pre-paid he had nothing else to say. We were told we would hear back and never did. I wouldn’t trust these people to make a cake for my dog. BEWARE OF SMALL...

I bought a box of different baked goods which turned out to be a little pricey. $75.00 wow!!. Anyway, they were okay just cold since they were all refrigerated or kept cold there. Asked for just one tuna melt & she gave me two, maybe that's why everything came to be $75.00 idk but they were good just cold. The only thing I didn't care for was the blueberry breakfast bar which I ate in my car & that was ice cold too so maybe that's why I didn't care for it. Probably would have tasted better if it were warm. The brownie & gingerbread cake was a tad dry & the vanilla latte wasn't that sweet either but it's okay I just ended up going to Starbucks for one & threw the other one out, really just wished she would have donuts there, more bread varieties, cinnamon rolls not the croissant ones, but regular cinnamon rolls, more cake slices or squares, pies, & more tart varieties like pudding tarts & custard filled cream puffs but other than that it's okay. Still searching for the perfect bakery though, but I think most of the customers who really love this place are the ones who live close by or...
